BioShock 4 Job Listing Hints at More RPG Elements, Fallout-Style Dialogue System

Very little is known about the next BioShock game in any official capacity, beyond the fact that new studio Cloud Chamber is hard at work on the project. However, some recent Cloud Chamber job listings may give fans a better idea of what to expect from the project, suggesting that it may have more RPG elements than previous entries, including a dialogue system similar to the Fallout franchise.

As discovered by Resetera user MauroNL, these Cloud Chamber job listings include jobs for Senior Voice Designer, Game AI programmer, and Lead Systems Designer, with descriptions that hint at what BioShock 4 may have in store for fans. For instance, anyone applying for the Senior Voice Designer role will need to have experience with RPGs and is going to help designed dialogue systems. Most BioShock games feature mostly-silent protagonists, so this would be quite the departure from the norm, though it remains to be seen if the player character will be voiced or if players will simply be choosing dialogue options from a menu.

Meanwhile, the Systems Designer job listing also hints at BioShock 4 having more RPG elements than previous games in the series. Evidently, BioShock 4 will have an “emergent sandbox world,” whereas previous BioShock games, while having open environments, were still fairly linear by design.

With Cloud Chamber remaining quiet on the next BioShock game, all fans have to go one are job listings. Earlier this summer, BioShock 4 job listings surfaced in a similar manner, suggesting that the new game would also have a new setting. BioShock 4‘s setting has long been the topic of debate among fans, with some hoping that it does indeed go in a new direction, and others hoping for a return to Rapture or Columbia.

The new BioShock game has a lot to live up to, and deciding on a setting may be the least of its worries. While fans will expect an impressive location to explore, they will also expect the BioShock 4 story to be surprising and innovative, as both the original game and BioShock Infinite earned acclaim for their stories. They will also expect a high level of polish, as BioShock games have typically been top-tier gaming experiences all around.

Whether or not BioShock 4 lives up to the hype remains to be seen, and it’s far too early to make a declaration either way. The game is still early in development and it will likely be years before fans get a look at it, but hopefully it meets or exceeds fan expectations whenever it does release.

BioShock 4 is in development.
