Cyberpunk 2077 Steam Downloads Are Freezing at 57.4 GB

As the release date for Cyberpunk 2077 draws closer and closer, some users have started to take advantage of a pre-loading feature available on most major systems. Although, for a number of Steam users, the game download for Cyberpunk 2077 is stuck at a very specific number of gigabytes, and this problem appears to be occurring very consistently for many.

The pre-load for Cyberpunk 2077 was made available earlier today, and a number of people have been taking advantage of it across a variety of platforms. Since practically every game nowadays requires users to download game files directly onto their system of choice, pre-loading became an efficient option for players who wanted to download the game files early and then be able to play the game immediately once it released instead of having to wait for the game files to download.

Naturally, many players chose to pre-load Cyberpunk 2077 for when it releases worldwide tomorrow, but for whatever reason, a lot of Steam users have their downloads stuck at 57.4 GB. So much so, that “57.4 GB” is currently trending on Twitter. It’s amazing just the sheer volume of users facing this same, weirdly specific problem while trying to download Cyberpunk 2077.

Given the fact that a lot of people have been waiting to play this game for the better part of eight years, plus the fact that Cyberpunk 2077 has faced numerous delays within the last year especially, it makes sense for a lot of users to have the same idea to pre-load the game. However, the fact that so many users have had their downloads frozen at the exact same point is very bizarre to say the least.

Then again, it does make sense as to why the downloads would be facing issues. A few weeks ago, Cyberpunk 2077 was topping the Steam digital sales charts, so for how many users who have purchased this game, it makes sense that a significant portion would want to pre-load the game. Therefore, issues like this would inevitably arise as a result, but it is nevertheless surprising that there is this many people with the same consistent issue.

With any luck, this problem will eventually resolve itself, but one thing that some fans may not have considered is Cyberpunk 2077’s Day One patch, which is a little over half of the game’s current file size. While smaller than 57.4 GB, hopefully the same issues don’t occur in terms of downloading the Day One patch.

Cyberpunk 2077 is set to launch on December 10, 2020 for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions currently in development.
