Dead Space Creator’s New Studio Will Reveal Game at The Game Awards

The Game Awards 2020 airs in just over 24 hours. The annual awards ceremony is set up to be the biggest event of December, building off of the excitement from the launch of both the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Over a dozen games are expected to be announced, with more reveals even beyond that. Excited viewers can add another confirmed game to the list, it seems, as The Game Awards 2020 host Geoff Keighley announced that a new game is going to be revealed from one of the creators of Dead Space.

The confirmation came via Keighley’s Twitter account, where The Game Awards host revealed that Glen Schofield and his new studio Striking Distance Studios would be revealing a new game. The studio was originally founded in mid-2019 but has rapidly grown into a multi-studio, 100+ employee, international team. Leadership at the company includes key developers from the Dead Space franchise, as well as the Call of Duty series.

Further evidence of Striking Distance Studios’ announcement came from Kinda Funny Games‘ Greg Miller. Miller showed off a care package he received from Striking Distance. The Yeti cooler crate was packed with alcohol, including a flask of Stillhouse bourbon, a literal barrel of NEFT vodka, Fee Brothers’ Black Walnut Bitters, sugar cubes, and a bottle of Woodford Reserve bourbon cherries, to boot. Lastly, there were a pair of glasses, a wooden cocktail spurtle for muddling, and a recipe for Striking Distance Studios’ Black Iron Fashioned.

Suffice to say, it’s a setup for a very fancy drink that Striking Distance is very excited to share with its friends. In the letter Schofield sent to Greg that accompanied the package, he says that he’s unable to share any details about the game yet, but that he’s happy to “share this big reveal together.” Of course, he also invited Greg to share the package on social media with the requisite hashtag, too. A new studio’s got to make the most of the hype surrounding The Game Awards.

As for what Striking Distance Studios’ game will be, the last time news was shared from them the team was working on a narrative experience based in the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds universe. Surprisingly, the care package that was sent out made no mention of the PUBG game. The crate could be related, but is probably just a coincidence.

Fans will find out exactly what Striking Distance is working on Thursday night during The Game Awards 2020. It may be a PUBG-related narrative game or it could be something different. The only thing for sure is that viewers will have to make their own drink, if they want to celebrate with the team.

Striking Distance Studios‘ game is currently unannounced.
