Fans of Destiny 2 have had lots to sink their teeth into during the last couple of weeks. From the new Deep Stone Crypt Raid to the new Hawkmoon exotic weapon quest, the game is keeping players engaged week after week. Needless to say, the holidays are also fast approaching, which means another seasonal event for Bungie’s MMO. The studio officially unveiled The Dawning 2020 event with a trailer today, showing rewards, decorations, and festive activities.
The Dawning is Destiny‘s annual winter event, and debuted in 2016 as part of the Rise of Iron expansion. Since then, it has evolved to focus on different types of pursuits and rewards, and has been made available free for all players. As with almost all other seasonal events, The Dawning is hosted by Eva Levante at the Tower Courtyard.
The event begins on December 15 and ends on January 5 at the weekly reset. Players will learn new and old recipes to craft treats for Destiny‘s many characters. They will also be able to find surprise gifts, get increasingly bountiful rewards, and upgrade their brand new exotic ship with customizable engines alongside an uniquely animated shader.
Eva Levante will once again offer the Holiday Oven for preparing the treats. Players will need to discover recipes if they haven’t already, and gather ingredients by participating in activities across Destiny‘s various destinations. As they complete missions, bounties, and recipes, players will also generate a new currency called Dawning Spirit. There will be account and community wide Dawning Spirit goals, which will unlock better seasonal rewards for the player and the community respectively.
Via Dawning Spirit, fans will also deck out a special exotic ship available only during The Dawning. This ship will feature multiple engine effects to choose from, as well as a transmat effect and animated shader unique to said ship. Another piece of gear available only for three short weeks is the Legendary Fusion Rifle Glacioclasm. This festive Void energy weapon will be randomly rolled, and feature some of the recently introduced perks.
Of course, The Dawning will also come with a plethora of new cosmetics available for Silver and Bright Dust at the Eververse store. Some of the available items include decorated Ghost Shells, Glowing Sparrows, and ornate armor sets for each class. These universal armor ornament sets were actually teased with concept images earlier in the month as part of Bungie’s charity event.
Destiny 2: Beyond Light is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
