The Game Awards are just hours away, as fans eagerly await to hear which of their favorite games will be awarded the winners in their respective categories. The awards will be presented by people from all over the world (virtually of course), from places inside and outside of gaming. One Game Awards presenter, Reggie Fils-Aime, is ready to go; and he may be teasing a special announcement.
Geoff Keighley has detailed how The Game Awards will be run digitally this year, and as a part of the production, many different presenters will be involved. In a recent tweet, Keighley showcased what his setup looks like for the show, an exciting (even if empty) auditorium. As a response to this image, Reggie Fil-Aime posted his own personal setup at what looks like a home-office. In his Tweet, Reggie explained something about an announcement.
It is entirely possible that the announcement that Reggie is referring to is simply whatever award he will be presenting at The Game Awards. Last year the Nintendo icon announced the winner of the Fresh Indie Game award, one that recognized the hard work of a new independent studio and the game it released. But there is a chance, and this is pure speculation based on the hopes of Nintendo fans and the tweet that Reggie shot out into cyberspace, that Reggie could be announcing some sort of new video game; likely a Nintendo one.
Reggie Fils-Aime is the former Nintendo of America President, but he has stayed involved in the world of video games even after his retirement. There is a chance, albeit maybe unlikely, that Reggie announces a new Nintendo game, or even just a new trailer for one that has already been revealed. Nintendo fans are awaiting the next Breath of the Wild 2 announcement or Metroid Prime 4 trailer, for example, and it is possible that Reggie could present something like this. As a total shot in the dark, maybe he will even finally reveal the game he’s been bugged about for his entire Nintendo career, the next entry for Mother/Earthbound.
Along with joining multiple boards of directors outside of gaming, Reggie joined GameStop’s board this year and is even co-hosting the 2021 New York Game Awards next year. The Game Awards will be nice practice, although Reggie has spent quite a lot of time on a big stage revealing huge announcements.
Along with the nominees and winner, The Game Awards 2020 will premiere at least a dozen unannounced games, according to a recent AMA on Reddit that Geoff Keighley himself took part in. Nintendo may be a part of the announcements, and Reggie Fils-Aime could have one last video game secret up his sleeves. But for now, this is just speculation, fans will have to tune in tonight to find out.
The Game Awards 2020 will premiere Thursday, December 10 at 4:00 p.m. PT
