A number of surprising announcements and game reveals were made at The Game Awards 2020 on December 10, including the moment during the show when Square Enix revealed that Just Cause: Mobile will be coming to Android and iOS sometime in 2021.
The fifth game in the series that first appeared in 2006 will allow players to customize their agents, weapons, and accessories, as well as hop into weaponized vehicles to wreak havoc on the battlefield. Just Cause: Mobile will offer gamers a brand new story campaign with vast open-world locations to explore, as well as cameos from previous Just Cause characters.
Select missions in Just Cause: Mobile will also enable four-player cooperative play, and the game’s Challenge Mode will give players the chance to see who is the best at racing or destruction. The Triple Threat multiplayer mode will pit three teams of 10 players against one another in a contest to claim bases and earn points.
Just Cause: Mobile will feature a top-down isometric view, unlike previous games in the series that are played in the third-person perspective. Another break from the past is the fact that Just Cause: Mobile will be developed by a new team led by Square Enix and not Avalanche Studios, who created the other four games. Just Cause won’t be the first franchise adapted by Square Enix for mobile platforms. Lara Croft GO and Final Fantasy 15: Pocket Edition both proved so successful that they were later ported to consoles and PC.
Just Cause: Mobile will be released for Android and iOS in 2021.
