Apex Legends players have discovered a few new bugs as of late, with the latest issue making one of the game’s Legends feel almost useless. Recently, the Apex Legends character Rampart has seen one of her abilities consistently breaking for numerous players, making her a much less viable choice in Respawn’s popular battle royale.
While the powerful Apex Legends character Wraith is dominating the pick rate charts, it has become equally common to find Rampart near the bottom of the list. While Rampart’s abilities do require a bit more finesse to use and are only viable in certain situations, the bigger issue currently impacting her popularity seems to be her broken Amped Cover ability. With the character’s main skill not working properly, her low pick rate is completely understandable.
While Apex Legends developer Respawn is planning nerfs for certain Legends, getting a fix out for Rampart now seems to be equally important. Redditor dadnothere posted a clip of the bug to the Apex Legends subreddit, using the title “nobody knows that rampart is broken because nobody uses it.” Referring to the Amped Cover ability that the player is attempting to put down in the clip, dadnothere can be seen failing to place the ability onto the ground.
Not only is the item unable to be placed, but the glitch begins to become more troublesome when the Rampart player is forced to wait as the Legend continues to fail at placing the cover. Becoming a bullet sponge that can only hold the buggy piece of cover in their hands, dadnothere’s frustration with the Rampart issue is easily understandable. While other characters have seen beneficial glitches, like Lifeline’s healing drone becoming invulnerable, Rampart consistently seems to struggle.
With the clip’s poster confirming that the glitch “happens on both maps,” it seems like those using Rampart on the new Olympus map are not safe, either. Players like ZorkFireStorm believe that “Rampart will be a meme for a long time,” and it is hard to argue with this belief. The character’s main role is to fortify areas with turrets and the amped cover ability, which is supposed to block damage while improving the shots fired behind the cover, so seeing her stripped of one of her key abilities is a major problem.
With Rampart’s Shield ultimate ability struggling to deploy in open areas as well, the character clearly needs some major bug fixes. When a patch comes to Apex Legends to fix the character’s glitchy abilities remains to be seen, though the character will likely remain one of the least popular Legends until it does.
Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version arriving sometime next year.
