Intel’s New Flagship i9 11900K CPU Details Leaked | Game Rant

Following the well-received launch of AMD’s Ryzen 5000 Series, gamers have been waiting to see just how well Intel can compete with its upcoming 11th Generation Core CPUs. Many people are expecting Intel to struggle, and the latest specification leak suggests the company will need strong architecture improvements to compete with AMD.

The details were revealed by Twitter user Davidbepo, showing specifications for four of the Intel 11th Gen processors under the code name Rocket Lake. The flagship 11900K will replace the 10900K, but will be relying on the new Cypress Cove cores to perform better per clock cycle, as it features only 8 cores and 16 threads, 2 fewer cores and 4 fewer threads than the current generation model.

In addition, the core speeds of the new 11th Generation i9 11900K chip will not be significantly changed from the 19 10900K, with the base clock slightly dropped to 3.5 GHz, but the ability to boost a single core to 5.3 GHz, 100 MHz faster than the existing chip. The other CPUs revealed were the i7-11700K, i5 11600K, and i5 11400, which keep the same core counts as the current model, with minor adjustments to the frequencies.

Although on paper the specifications for the flagship i9 11900K look weak compared to Intel’s current flagship, the move to Cypress Cove cores is expected to provide a solid boost in the number of instructions carried out per clock cycle. This will provide a significant boost to the performance of each individual thread, making up for the loss of 2 cores. The fact that the i9 11900K has the same 125W PL1 TDP power draw as the 10900K, despite having two fewer cores, hints at the performance improvements for each core.

Intel is clearly focusing the Rocket Lake line up on the gaming market, looking to regain the performance crown from AMD, and keep its traditional lead in the segment. Sacrificing two cores from the flagship to ensure that each thread performance is maximized, driving higher FPS from games that still prioritize a single core. The changes also mean that the i7-11700K could become an excellent value buy, with the same core count and relatively similar clock speeds to its more expensive sibling.

Of course, the prices of the new CPUs are still to be unveiled. Intel could use lower than expected pricing to help it compete with AMD, but given that Ryzen 5000 CPUs are near impossible to find, it may be able to sell out regardless.
