Shakedown: Hawaii is a 16-bit Grand Theft Auto parody title that was originally released last year, in 2019. Although the game was revealed to many in a Nintendo Direct in 2017, the game has since been launched on many different platforms. The game has most recently been announced for the PS5, making the game now available on nine different platforms.
In coming to the PlayStation 5 on December 15, Shakedown: Hawaii will be a cross-buy compatible title. This means that anyone who purchases the game on a PlayStation console will be able to download it on any other eligible PlayStation console for free. That list includes the PS5 and the PS4, but also the PS3 (that is now two console generations old) and even the beloved PS Vita.
Indie developer Vblank Entertainment seems to enjoy putting its titles on as many platforms as possible. Retro City Rampage is perhaps the developer’s most popular game (released in 2012 and available across many platforms), as it is another action-adventure parody game, this time in 8-bit and a love letter to pixel art games from a different generation.
Vblank Entertainment has found an interesting niche, between releasing its games on as many platforms as possible and even recently releasing a physical version of Shakedown: Hawaii on the Wii U and Wii (consoles that are long dead, with the latter having been released thirteen years ago), the developer is doing very unique things. So far, Shakedown Hawaii hasn’t been made available for Xbox consoles, but if it ever does, perhaps it can be expected to release on the Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and even original Xbox.
Shakedown: Hawaii is available now on PC, Nintendo 3DS, Wii, Wii U, Nintendo Switch, PS3, PS4, PS Vita, and will release on the PS5 on December 15, 2020.
