Destiny 2 Bug Might Explain Damage Confusion With Deep Stone Crypt Raid Boss

As is often the case for new endgame content added to any online title, Destiny 2: Beyond Light‘s newest raid, Deep Stone Crypt has quickly become a playground for players to jump in and test the new boundaries of the game. One encounter in particular has gathered a certain amount of attention from the community lately as, while the Destiny 2 raid boss can be soloed, there seems to be a bug that makes the damage in-game appear inconsistent.

A number of players have found the bug and began investigating exactly how it affected the damage dealt to the boss, with one Destiny 2 player going by the name Saber posting the results in a video to YouTube. However, it would appear that a separate group of players who go by Team Doinya have been credited with actually finding the cause of the bug itself and why it seems to affect the raid boss’ damage calculations.

The bug itself involves one of Deep Stone Crypt’s bosses, Atraks-1, who players have noted doesn’t seem to be affected by any kind of damage debuffs, like the one applied with the Tractor Cannon exotic shotgun. To make the issue even stranger, the post-wipe screen shows a disparity in damage dealt, even though it isn’t reflected on the boss’ health bar. This is where players had been left with Destiny 2‘s raid bug until Saber and Team Doinya discovered that the cause of the bug involved a Fallen Captain located outside of the normal boundaries of the encounter.

For those that might not know, the Atraks-1 boss fight uses a Fallen Captain outside of the raid encounter as a “clone” of the enemy that the raid team is damaging. Players were able to glitch out of the raid encounter and find this Fallen, and soon discovered that damaging it actually damages the “boss.”

With that in mind, players have found that applying the same debuffs to this Fallen Captain will cause the damage increase to be reflected on Atraks-1’s health bar, making the common practice of draining the Destiny 2 raid boss with swords much easier. In a Reddit post accompanying the video, Saber assumes that the boss’ health bar has been tied to this Captain, causing the issue in the first place.

Bungie has had to address a number of raid bugs in Destiny 2, from a reward-farming exploit to a recent inability for console players to put a raid party together. However, the developer has been quick to seal up many of these issues as they arrive, so complaints and comments of concern are reaching the people it needs to. Having this kind of head start on how the bug is happening sourced from the community may even lead to fixing the Atraks-1 bug sooner than without player involvement, which just goes to show the impact a community can have on a title like Destiny 2.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
