Fortnite Could Be Making Some Big Changes to Aim Assist Soon

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 5 has been out for about two weeks now, and players are still getting used to all the new content that has come with the start of a new season. Elements like Season 5’s new Zero Point change things up on a surface level and introduce new lore, but there have been plenty of system and gameplay tweaks as well.

Now, it seems another gameplay tweak may be coming to Fortnite in the near future. Fortnite leaker and dataminer Mang0e_ suggests Epic Games may be tweaking how the game’s aim assist and targeting system works yet again.

RELATEDFortnite Theory Thinks that Epic Games is Hiding a Big Secret

Fortnite, like any other multiplayer game that receives updates and changes, sometimes leaves some players upset with the changes made to core gameplay. Fortnite players have complained about issues surrounding the game in the past, such as a lack of updates to certain modes or issues with weapon balance. Usually, Epic Games is on top of these criticisms, addressing them in some way that lets the community know they are listening. This time, it seems Epic Games is taking another look at aim assist, an element of the gameplay that has long been divisive.

Mang0e_, who also recently pointed out ‘Dynamic Ice’ potentially coming to Fortnite, discovered a new plug-in within the game’s code that directly addresses both aim assist and targeting. Mang0e_ said on Twitter that the description reads, “Generic Targeting System to be used for gameplay. Abilities/Aim Assist/etc.” It seems Epic Games has heard some of the complaints surrounding the current strength of aim assist, and Fortnite is taking active steps to balance it in some way going forward.

This isn’t the first time that Epic Games has tweaked Fortnite’s aim assist in some way, as earlier this year the company took out Fortnite’s legacy aim assist feature. The debate between console and PC players on whether or not aim assist provides an unfair advantage has been going on for quite some time, with no real end in sight. Each side has its advantages, as PC players have arguably far more accuracy with the use of a mouse. On the other hand, Fortnite’s aim assist feature for players using a controller is often seen as overpowered.

However, this may be another change to Season 5 of Fortnite that players find polarizing. Season 5 has changed a lot of elements around already, and a lot of players are still getting used to new systems like gold bars and bounties. Only time will tell whether or not these systems stick around for the long haul, as Fortnite is constantly changing and evolving. Hopefully, Epic Games’ new adjustments to aim assist and targeting offer a more balanced experience to all Fortnite players.

Fortnite is available for Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
