More Yakuza Games Are Coming to Xbox Game Pass | Game Rant

Following Yakuza: Like A Dragon’s next-generation port becoming a timed-exclusive on the Xbox Series X, it seems Microsoft has looked to make Yakuza a big part of the Xbox brand, bringing Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, and Yakuza Kiwami 2 to Game Pass this year. Now, it seems the company is looking to offer even more of the iconic Japanese series for players on the service, with Microsoft announcing a further four iterations of the franchise will hit Game Pass in the coming months.

To be precise, Yakuza 3, 4, 5, and 6: The Song of Life will all be making their debut early next year, meaning those wanting to catch up on the long and comprehensive history of the franchise before playing Like a Dragon will have every prior entry available to them on Game Pass. As for when exactly the games will hit the subscription service, The Yakuza Remastered Collection – which bundles Yakuza 3, 4, and together – will launch on January 28, 2021, while Yakuza 6: The Song of Life will debut on March 25.

For those who never played the seminal Japanese action-adventure games, they follow Kiryu Kazuma, a respected former-yakuza who often brings justice to wrong-doers of the criminal underworld. The series is renowned for its over-the-top action, ludicrous humor, and insane narratives, as Kiryu’s adventures frequently take a turn for the strange as he battles ninjas, secret agents, and grown men in diapers. Throughout Yakuza 3, 4, and 5, players will get access to some of the character’s most iconic stories, before wrapping up his saga with Yakuza 6: The Song of Life.

Although the seventh canonical mainline entry did mark the end of Kiryu’s stint as the main protagonist of the series, Yakuza: Like a Dragon acted as a soft-reboot. New lead Ichiban Kasuga took over as the franchise’s main hero, while the gameplay changed drastically, switching out the previous games’ beat em’ up combat for a turn-based, RPG-focused style. That being said, the world, characters, and overarching story of Kiryu’s run as main protagonist continue into Like a Dragon, so those wanting to dive into Kasuga’s next-gen tale will definitely have something to gain from experiencing the classic titles when they hit Game Pass.

Outside of YakuzaXbox Game Pass is currently offering a huge range of titles to keep players satisfied, with Control, Doom Eternal, and Greedfall all recently being added to the service. Microsoft even struck a deal with EA to ensure players have a ton to enjoy this holiday season, including Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Fifa 20, Battlefield V, and The Sims 4. Yakuza will be yet another solid addition to the service that’s sure to welcome an influx of new fans to the beloved series.
