Cat villagers are undoubtedly among the cutest, and when it comes to famous ones, Kid Cat is definitely a villager most players have seen at least once. His red spandex suit and helmet make him stand out from other villager types and themes, and has gained him a bit of popularity.
Kid Cat is a typical jock villager, meaning he loves all things sports and workout. Not a day goes by without him making a mention of it to the player. However, his constant chatter about muscles and post-workout drinks aside, Kid Cat is a long-standing villager in the Animal Crossing franchise, which is why there’s so much to learn about him.
10 His Appearances In Previous Games
Kid Cat’s appearance is familiar to many for a good reason. New Horizons isn’t actually the first time he’s been in an Animal Crossing game. In fact, Kid Cat has been around almost since the conception of the franchise, and has gained his small fanbase through years of reappearing in various installments of the game.
Kid Cat has been seen in City Folk and Wild World, as well as Happy Home Designer. He also appeared in Pocket Camp and finally in New Leaf before making it to New Horizons. His design has remained largely the same, aside from his arms that have been tweaked slightly in New Horizons.
9 One Of Five Superhero Villagers
Animal Crossing not only likes to theme villagers around their specific animal type and personality, but also across various species to form smaller themed groups of villagers. One of the many examples is Kid Cat’s theme, which is the superhero theme.
There’s four other villagers in this group, and just like any self-respecting superhero group they all have their own respective numbers and colored spandex suits. There’s Agent S, Big Top, Rocket and Filly. Players planning on a superhero village should look out for them when moving in new villagers.
8 His Color Is A Reference
It’s no coincidence that Kid Cat’s signature color of red. Red is somewhat of a recurring color when it comes to superheroes and their suits. This has been seen in popular characters like Spider-Man and Deadpool, but neither of those are the real inspiration for Kid Cat’s design.
Kid Cat was no doubt modeled with the Super Sentai series, or the Power Rangers series in mind. More specifically, Kid Cat was probably inspired by the Red Power Ranger specifically, who acts as the main, lead character of the bunch.
7 His House Is Quite Unique
Each villager has a very specific theme when it comes to their house. The style and the color of the house is bound to change depending on their theme and personality, which allows the player to easily identify which house belongs to who. And also, it makes creating a fitting front yard for a villager that much easier.
Kid Cat’s house is just what one would expect from his theme: bright and hard to miss. The house is a bright red just like he is, with a wooden exterior and a sturdy door with a small window. His roof is a light grey color.
6 A Mistake In City Folk
Kid Cat has many names, due to the number of languages into which the game has been translated. In Japanese, his name is Ichigo, which is a play on the word “strawberry” and the number 1 and the word “go.” In French, his name Calin simply means hug.
However, in a previous game his name was unexpectedly Petra. In City Folk, there was a mistake in the German translation version of the game, which led to Kid Cat having the name Petra, despite it usually being a feminine name.
5 Inside His House
One would expect Kid Cat to have a heavily futuristic and perhaps even superhero themed interior décor items. However, that just isn’t the case when one enters his little red house. Instead, players are greeted with the sight of a grimy back alley, which is pretty unexpected for indoor areas in the first place.
Kid Cat’s urban style home still falls perfectly in line with his jock personality type. His house is filled with sports-y furniture, including a football, a basketball net and other workout items. There’s even a trash can and an oil barrel in the corner, as well as cute yellow bicycle.
4 His Initial Catchphrase
Kid Cat appears as someone immensely loud and energetic when first met. With him dressed in red and always gushing about working out, one wouldn’t think that his original catchphrase is something as quiet and subtle as “psst.”
There’s actually no reasoning for this choice either in terms of design. He could have benefited more from a superhero themed catchphrase, but perhaps this unexpected “psst” of his is what makes him more unique and lovable.
3 His Favorite Coffee
Unfortunately, New Horizons still hasn’t seen the appearance of Brewster, the owner of the coffee shop The Roost. Although speculation would have placed his appearance to last fall during the Halloween event, he was never included into the game which is a bit of a shame.
However, he’ll most likely appear eventually, which is why knowing Kid Cat’s favorite coffee is worth recalling if he’s a favorite. He likes a Blue Mountain, with two spoons of sugar and a regular serving of milk.
2 His Favorite K. K. Song
Music can reveal quite a bit about a villager. In fact, every villager seems to have their favorite song themed around their general appearance or personality. Kid Cat’s favorite tune from K. K. is no different either, since his absolute favorite of Go K. K. Rider!
This tune is very upbeat and the cover has that powerful photo of K. K. blasting off on a motorcycle, which is something superheroes would no doubt do as well. With the mood of the song “a bit grumpy”, it seems to fit Kid Cat’s energetic personality perfectly.
1 He Poses Like Kamen Rider
Another inspiration for Kid Cat has been Kamen Rider, which is a well-known Japanese superhero originally seen in a manga and a TV series. In particular, Kid Cat’s pose seen in his amiibo card is very much inspired by the actual iconic pose often seen on Kamen Rider.
This has obviously generated a lot of fan art between the two series. If Kamen Rider ever had a pet, it would definitely have to be Kid Cat, since these two are like two peas in a pod.
