Cyberpunk 2077: 10 Next-Gen Enhancements We Want To See On The PS5 & Xbox Series X Version

As one of the most hotly anticipated video games of a generation, Cyberpunk 2077 had a lot to live up to so they could meet fan expectations. While the game has reviewed well on more powerful hardware like PCs, the PlayStation 5, and the Xbox Series X, it has suffered running on base PS4s and Xbox Ones.

It is possible that releasing Cyberpunk 2077 on older hardware has held the game back quite significantly. In addition, owners of a PS5 and Xbox Series X are anticipating the release of the free next-gen update that is due in 2021. While gamers are left to speculate what fixes will be made based on the current version, here are improvements that could be made to Cyberpunk 2077.

10 Improved Animations

The character models and skin already look fantastic in the game especially in scenes where players can get a really close look at the characters. However, there is one area that could use some work and that’s the animation and how the characters move.

While the animations are far from terrible, it would have been nice to see something that looked a little more realistic to match the character models. Even though it would understandably be difficult to recreate the kind of animations seen in The Last of Us 2, Cyberpunk 2077 should look as close to a next-gen game as possible.

9 Improved Melee Combat

In addition, to improved animations, another feature that should go along with this is improved hand-to-hand and melee combat. The melee combat in Cyberpunk 2077is functional but quite basic and at times can be a little inaccurate.

A more fluid fighting system like the one seen in Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay would be a perfect fit for Cyberpunk. That fighting system feels fluid, responsive, satisfying, and it’s one of the few games where an FPS has got melee combat right.

8 Ray Tracing

There has been a lot of hype regarding the effects of ray tracing and how it can give a much more aesthetically pleasing appearance to the visuals. With ray tracing, games are capable of reproducing realistic looking reflections, lighting, and shadows.

To be fair Cyberpunk 2077 still has a few tricks up its sleeve with reflection mapping and lighting effects still looking fantastic but with the addition of ray tracing in a next-gen patch, it could look so much better. One only has to look at Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered on the PlayStation 5 to see how much a difference it makes on the game’s visuals.

7 4K At 60 FPS

Considering how big a game Cyberpunk 2077 is it may be something of a pipe dream to hope that it will hit a full 4K resolution with 60 FPS. At the moment on the Xbox Series X, the game has a choice between Performance Mode which allows it to get up to 60FPS but with 1080p resolution. While the Quality Mode allows for a dynamic resolution to reach a maximum resolution of 1800p.

However, there is hope that a dedicated PS5 and XSX version that doesn’t have to make compromises to run on old-gen hardware could perform much better and more in line with the PC hardware. Even if the developers implement something like the dynamic resolution that was achieved with Gears of War 5 that would be a huge improvement.

6 More Character Customization

The character creation tools in Cyberpunk 2077 do a great job of complimenting the excellent character models in the game. However, they still have some limitations and in many cases, the final character model may not look that different from the default model.

In addition, there aren’t enough body types in the game, players can’t make their characters short, tall, fat, thin, or muscular and it would be good to be able to create an avatar that some players want to be as close to them as possible.

5 The Subway System

Early preview shots of Cyberpunk 2077 seemed to show off a subway system which many assumed would be a form of fast travel like the one featured in Marvel’s Spider-Man. However, for reasons unknown, it seems like this feature has been removed from the final game.

It’s possible that the feature was removed due to hardware limitations so to see this feature return in a next-gen update would be a nice bonus. Furthermore, it would also be another good opportunity for gamers to see their creation on screen out of the first-person mode.

4 Wall Running/Parkour

One major feature that had to be removed due to time constraints and possible limitations of the base PlayStation 4 and Xbox One hardware was the wall running and parkour feature. The feature was shown in a gameplay trailer and showed off a parkour feature that allowed V to both escape difficult situations and get the drop on enemies.

It would obviously be a bit too much to expect the same verticality that’s in Assassin’s Creed especially as the buildings in Cyberpunk 2077 are huge. It would still be great if a basic feature allowing for some wall running and parkour to lower platforms would be a great addition in the future.

3 New Towns/Locations

A great new addition to the Cyberpunk 2077 game whether it’s in the original game or a next-generation update would be the addition of a new town or a location to expand the game. It’s possible that the developers at CD Projekt Red will expand the game as they did with The Witcher III: Blood and Wine.

The possibility of adding a new secret area in The Badlands would be a great addition to the game and the perfect way to make an already massive game even bigger.

2 A Third Person Mode

The customization system in Cyberpunk 2077 allows players to create excellent looking character models to have their own version of V. Unfortunately, beyond a few cutscenes players won’t have many opportunities to see their creations in the game’s world.

A great addition to the game would be the ability to switch between third and first-person modes while exploring Night City. A third person mode in combat could be worked in like the feature that was used in the recent Deus Ex games when using cover to shoot.

1 Vehicle Customization

During Cyberpunk 2077s development many fans assumed that vehicle customization would be a feature in the final game – even though that was never a confirmed feature – but unfortunately, that was not the case. There is always hope, however, that this is something that could be possible with a future update.

Vehicle customization is often a popular feature that can be found in Grand Theft Auto V and other open-world games like Mad Max. A future update for the game that included more customization features would definitely get a big response from the fans and given the developer’s track record for supporting The Witcher III it’s certainly not beyond the realms of possibility.
