Over the past couple of months, players have become enthralled with One More Level and 505 Games’ hit indie title Ghostrunner. The game has been celebrated by critics and players alike, with many considering one of the must play games of 2020. And although Ghostrunner is already a challenging experience as is, players are in for a whole new world of hurt thanks to the game’s free Hardcore update.
PC players can now update Ghostrunner for free to gain access to its new Hardcore mode. This new take on the game will serve to give those that have already completed the story of Dharma Tower an even bigger challenge by placing enemies in new locations on each level. If that wasn’t hard enough, Hardcore Mode will also make it so that players will face all enemy types from the very beginning of the game.
One of Ghostrunner‘s biggest assets is the cyberpunk aesthetic presented throughout the environments. However, now players have a new opportunity to customize Jack himself through cosmetic DLC called the “Winter Pack.” For $1.99, players will receive access to the Cold Snap Katana and Cold Blood Glove, putting players into the holiday spirit.
This update and DLC may not give players a whole lot of new content to explore, but it certainly seems like it will help with replayability. Ghostrunner will take most players between 8 and 11 hours to beat (possibly more if repeated deaths become an issue) so this inclusion looks as though it is aimed at extending that experience.
While this Winter Pack won’t give players any sort of advantage when facing off against Hel or any of the other enemies in Ghostrunner, that doesn’t seem to be what it’s about. Critics have remarked that Ghostrunner seems to have an express interest in making the player feel like the coolest person that has ever existed. And now thanks to these icy new digs, players will be even “cooler.”
Unfortunately, players on Xbox One and PS4 will have to wait a little longer for this new content to arrive. According to One More Level, the console versions of this update will be arriving on December 17. Nintendo Switch players have it much worse, though, as both the Hardcore update and Winter Pack DLC won’t be arriving there until Q1 2021. It seems like those playing on Switch will just have to hang tight and be patient; Dharma Tower isn’t going anywhere.
Ghostrunner is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. Versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X are currently in development.
