The Nintendo Switch has been an incredible success for Nintendo following the financial failure that was the Wii U. Despite brand new consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X ushering in the next generation of gaming, Nintendo is still holding strong with the Switch.
Unfortunately, the Nintendo Switch is not without its faults as some Japanese customers have recently experienced. Now, Nintendo has issued a public apology following an influx of Japanese customers experiencing faulty Switch consoles straight out of the box.
Nintendo experienced some amazing sales numbers last month thanks to the Switch. The Switch was November’s top-selling console, beating out both the PS5 and Xbox Series X during their launch months. Despite the high anticipation for next generation consoles, the Switch has managed to stay on top in terms of sales for the time being. Unfortunately, not everyone who purchased a Switch in recent weeks has had the best experience, as many Japanese customers can attest to.
Apparently, some Japanese customers are experiencing an error code during the console’s initial set up. Japanese customers have reported seeing “Error Code 2162-0002” after unboxing the console and going through the early set up process necessary to get the console up and running. Nintendo is aware of this issue and has put out an official statement apologizing for the inconvenience and offering to swiftly replace the faulty consoles. The official statement links to a contact form where affected owners can get their units replaced by Nintendo.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first issue that Nintendo has had when it comes to the Switch. Nintendo has experienced several lawsuits over the Switch Joy-Con Drift issue which has plagued systems for over two years now. Despite those lawsuits, Nintendo has done very little to accommodate users experiencing Joy-Con Drift. Thankfully, it seems like this recent error code situation affecting Japanese Switch systems won’t play out the same way.
Sadly, issues with new consoles are something that consumers have been dealing with for a very long time. Plenty of people have reported hardware issues with both the PS5 and Xbox Series X following their launch, as is fairly common with most new consoles in the months after launch. While it’s unfortunate that Nintendo is still sending out Switch consoles with issues more than three years after launch, sometimes these problems just slip through the cracks. Despite these issues, the Switch’s momentum doesn’t look to be slowing down this holiday season. It’s still on track to outsell the PS5 and Xbox Series X this holiday season, according to analysts. Thankfully, Nintendo seems willing to fully replace those affected consoles before the holiday season ends.
