The Xbox Game Pass subscription service has been a major selling point for the Xbox whether it was the Xbox One or the next-generation Xbox Series X/S consoles. There’s even talk of a potential family plan for Xbox Game Pass that even Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, commented would be a welcome addition to the service. However, one feature users have been expecting will not be arriving anytime soon.
According to an update on Xbox Wire, the Xbox Game Pass subscription service will not be bringing EA Play to PC this year and will be arriving in 2021. This would’ve allowed players to access games in EA’s gaming subscription service through Microsoft’s subscription service. However, EA Play is still available on Xbox Game Pass for console users.
For now, EA Play’s launch on PC with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate memberships was delayed to 2021. Xbox states this is an unforeseen development for the joint endeavor with EA. The update explains that more time will be required to properly bring the full experience of EA Play to PC through Xbox Game Pass. As such, the launch has been delayed while the teams continue to work on it. However, the update doesn’t provide specific details on what has to be worked on.
Other than that, Xbox thanks the whole community for their patience and support during this unintended delay. This wouldn’t be the first delay for Xbox concerning the subscription service. On Tuesday last week, it was announced on the official Xbox Game Pass Twitter that the game Gang Beasts wouldn’t be arriving on Game Pass this December as planned.
Gang Beasts is a multiplayer game published by Double Fine, responsible for developing the game Psychonauts and its upcoming sequel. Similar to the EA Play update, neither Xbox or Microsoft provided an exact reason for the delay and that it was only coming to Xbox Game Pass in 2021. However, the rest of the 16 Xbox Game Pass games were still added to the subscription service as planned. So, players can still enjoy the service’s monthly games in December.
At the time of writing, there has been no further update from Microsoft on the EA Play delay on Xbox Game Pass. In the update, Xbox does state that it will keep everyone apprised on the status of EA Play in future updates going into early 2021 while development of the PC launch is underway. For now, users looking forward to the benefits of EA Play with Xbox Game Pass will have to wait until next year.
