Animal Crossing: New Horizons: How To Get More Than One Large Snowflake Per Day

One of the many notable features of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is its inherent ties to real-time. As such, players often eagerly await the changing of seasons, as their in-game environment morphs to match parts of the real world with new seasonal items and characters also starting to make appearances.

Now that winter is fully underway in the Northern Hemisphere, players there can start enjoying the arrival of snow, holiday lights, and several other Animal Crossing: New Horizons festivities. While Thanksgiving is hosted by seasonally appropriate turkey-chef, Franklin, players can interact with Nintendo’s take on “Frosty the Snowman,” otherwise known as Snowboy.

Once winter officially begins in New Horizons (or in other words, when the snow and festive tree-lights appear), islanders all have a daily opportunity to craft and meet Snowboy, the magic snowman. On every winter day, every player will find two snowballs randomly throughout their island. These snowballs can be rolled onto one another to form a snowman, which upon formation, magically comes alive as the aforementioned Snowboy.

The two main draws of this snowman are the rare seasonal “Snowflake DIYs,” which can only be obtained from Snowboy himself, and the equally rare “Large Snowflakes,” which are required by his DIY blueprints. As of the snowy December New Horizons update, every time a player encounters a new Snowboy, they have a chance of receiving a single Large Snowflake, and a new Snowflake DIY. That being said, Perfect Snowboys will continue to give players Large Snowflakes on every day of their existence, regardless of their melty states.

So, even though players won’t get a new Snowflake DIY from older Perfect Snowboys, they can still talk to the fading fellows in exchange for one Large Snowflake per day. Given that Snowboys each last four days, this allows players to receive at least four Large Snowflakes from every Perfect Snowboy they create, which in turn makes crafting every Snowflake DIY a much more reasonable task. Moreover, crafting Snowboys, though limited to a single instance per day, is a rather simple feat. Players may sometimes find themselves chasing down a dung beetle for a snowball, but aside from that, the process is quite straightforward.

Islanders should also note: whereas players can find standard “Snowflakes” raining onto their islands, and catch them with a bug catching net, similar to the fall maple leaves, Large Snowflakes are only obtained from Perfect Snowboy himself. So although players may quickly stockpile Snowflakes, Large Snowflakes are effectively time-gated by the game. Naturally, players are encouraged to take advantage of this tip to maximize their Large Snowflake gains, as earning a single one per day would probably leave a player with a surplus of DIYs and a shortage of Snowflakes.
