The Nintendo Switch continues to break records all over the world. For 25 months straight, the Nintendo Switch has been the best-selling console in all of Canada. No other video game console has been on top for that many consecutive months in the nation, proving that the Switch is performing well all over the world.
While many predicted that the Switch would dominate the holidays (as Nintendo’s hybrid console continues to hit sales milestones) there were huge doubts about the console early on. The Wii U was seen as a major flop by many, and while the Nintendo Switch seemed like an impressive and innovative piece of tech, not many would have guessed that it would outsell every other console by leaps and bounds since it launched in 2017. But that has been the case, and in Canada, no console has sold better over the last two years.
According to the NPD Group, 790,000 Nintendo Switch units have sold in 2020 so far in Canada, which is more than all of 2019 by 162,000 units. In November alone, 148,000 Switch consoles were sold. Keep in mind, the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 also launched this month, so the Switch holding onto that top spot is impressive. November was the 25th consecutive month that Nintendo’s hybrid console held the top spot. Canada has certainly done its part in contributing towards the nearly 70 million Nintendo Switch worldwide sales since the console launched.
The General Manager of Nintendo of Canada, Dominic Gross, recently commented on the ongoing success of the Nintendo Switch, as he attributes it to how Nintendo caters to a wide audience. “Nintendo Switch offers something for everyone and we hope it creates many happy memories this holiday season and beyond.” The November Switch success is not exclusive to Canada, as the Switch was the best-selling console in the month of November in the US, as well.
