The official Xbox Twitter account announced that Among Us will be joining its library on the Xbox Game Pass service. After the recent success of Among Us this year, it is no surprise that console companies would also want to capitalize on the game.
The tweet came from the Xbox Game Pass PC account earlier today, in the form of an animation of the downloading task from Among Us with a crewmate was actually bringing the game to the Xbox Game Pass. A caption for the tweet that was shared by the main Xbox account said that Among Us will be joining the Xbox Game Pass for PC starting today.
For Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, Among Us won’t be available to play through Xbox Game Pass until a later undisclosed date in 2021. Among Us has launched on Nintendo Switch, so it seems Xbox is following suit to grow the game’s console audience.
Even though the game originally came out in 2018, Among Us was the most-searched game on Google in 2020, and continues to rise in popularity. Among Us is a game where four-to-ten players join together in an online map to complete tasks. Among the crewmates is one imposter, or possibly more, who will go around the map and kill the crewmates discreetly. The crewmates’ goal is to discuss who they think the imposter is and vote them out before the imposters are able to kill everyone.
With the way COVID-19 has intervened in many people’s lives, gamers were looking for a new way to socialize with others, and Among Us was able to fill that niche well. Many fans have been looking for new ways to spend time with friends in the game, such as creating an in-game hide and seek version and implementing an outside voice proximity chat. But with the inclusion of Among Us‘ new map, players will have plenty of new things to experience with friends in 2021.
Among Us was an immediate success on Switch, hitting the top of the best-selling chart within just one day of being released, so it will be interesting to see if it will have a similar effect for Xbox users. Now it is time to see how PlayStation will respond to this competition. Hopefully, the new Xbox users will find enjoyment in a game that has brought happiness to so many this year.
Among Us is available for Mobile, Nintendo Switch, and PC, and will be released for Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X in 2021.
