Call of Duty fans seem to enjoy finding alternative ways to play the action-filled first-person shooter. Whether it’s drumkits or fruit, players will find a way to play, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is no exception. While there are many alternatives to a standard controller or keyboard set up, this Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fan has chosen the recorder as his weapon of choice.
This is a rather silly set up with a low tech solution to playing Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. While most players with alternative controller methods use wires and sensors, he has a recorder, microphone, and headset as the only tools he needs to battle it out.
As strange as this player’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War set up is, he does manage to score a few kills. The recorder wielding player is a streamer known as DeanoBeano, and he has rigged up a recorder as an input device for his Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War set up. By playing varying notes and carefully timing his shots, the player can score kills, move around the map, and scope in and out. It seems that with only a recorder as a controller, he can do almost anything other players can.
Deano explains at the beginning of his stream that setting up the recorder was fairly easy. The difficult part was actually using it on stream, as he starts off barely moving. After several Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War matches, he eventually adjusts and finds a way to set up shots, move around the map, and actually make an impact on each match.
This is not the first time that DeanoBeano has brought a musical instrument to a Call of Duty title. In the past, the streamer has showcased his drumset controller with great success. After a few days of playing with the drums, he became almost as skilled as any PC or controller casual player. If his skills can transfer to the recorder, then it won’t be long before he is dominating the battlefield in musical combat.
There is no telling what DeanoBeano will pull out next. While it seems that he prefers musical instruments for his video games, many of his fans are hoping to see something even more unexpected in the next controller incarnation. Until then, he will be using a recorder and scoring kills without ever pulling a trigger.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
