Destiny 2: How to Complete the Red Rover Raid Challenge in Deep Stone Crypt

It’s been over a month since the release of Destiny 2 Beyond Light, the latest expansion for Bungie’s looter-shooter. Beyond Light is the fifth major expansion for Destiny 2, and has been described as the start of a new era for the game. As with the title’s previous expansions, Beyond Light adds a large amount of content, including a new region, elemental ability, and 6-person Raid.

The new raid in Beyond Light is the Deep Stone Crypt, which has a recommended Light level of 1220. During the Raid, the Guardians must secure the Crypt from the House of Salvation, protecting Europa from imminent destruction. However, there is also an interesting side-challenge called Red Rover that players can undertake, which awards a Triumph on completion.

The Red Rover Raid Challenge is completed in the Deep Stone Crypt’s opening encounter, Crypt Security. To complete the challenge, the Fireteam will need to finish the encounter with each member having been the Operator at least once. In addition, each Fireteam member needs to have shot two panels on the lower floor. While this doesn’t sound too difficult, it’s dangerous to linger too long on the lower level.

To complete the Destiny 2 Raid Challenge successfully, the Fireteam must be well organized. To do this, players should divide their team into three pairs of two Guardians. At the start of the encounter, the first player of the first pair must pick up the Operator buff. Next, they need to descend to the lower level to shoot the two dark side panels, called out by their Scanner partner. Once they’re done, they can pass the Operator buff back up to their partner by placing it in the machine.

Once the second player has received the Operator buff, it’s their turn to descend and shoot out the two light side panels. Because two Guardians from the Beyond Light Fireteam need to descend in the same phase, time is of the essence. Take too long and the second player may be killed by the Crypt’s defenses. After the second player has handed off the Operator buff, all the Fireteam needs to do is repeat the pattern for the remaining two pairs.

Because all six players in the Fireteam need to become the Operator, the encounter has to be prolonged to three phases. While it’s possible to finish it faster by shooting more panels each time, this will make it impossible to complete the Destiny 2 Challenge. Once the last Guardian has shot the final two panels with the Operator buff, the challenge will be complete, and all players will earn the Triumph.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
