After suffering a major delay in development due to the global pandemic, Natsume released a trailer for the upcoming farming simulator, Harvest Moon: One World, bringing the game closer to its release date next year.
Harvest Moon: One World was announced back in May of this year, but didn’t get a release date after its development process was delayed by Covid-19 restrictions. It was initially planned to release this fall, but Harvest Moon: One World will now release March 2nd, 2021 for the Nintendo Switch. Like all Harvest Moon games, One World will task the player with tending to farm while they meet and get to know the locals, and even marry one of them.
New in One World, players will be able to tend to animals other than the traditional farm livestock, such as camels and reindeer. Like with past Harvest Moon games, players will be able to plant crops, go fishing, mine minerals, and attend festivals. As far as marriages go, it’s unclear at this point whether or not Natsume will allow same-sex marriage, which was not the case with its last installment, Harvest Moon: Light of Hope.
This new Harvest Moon game is not to be confused with the Story of Seasons series. Publisher Natsume continued to own the rights to the Harvest Moon name after the original Harvest Moon games were later rebranded by Xseed as Story of Seasons. This has caused a great amount of confusion over long-time fans, resulting in many thinking Story of Seasons is a spiritual successor to the Harvest Moon games, when it’s actually the other way around. This series with the upcoming Harvest Moon: One World game is sometimes known as the Natsume series to alleviate confusion.
The prospect of the two series are largely the same, and Story of Seasons also has another game releasing soon, Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town, set to release next year for the Nintendo Switch.
Harvest Moon: One World will release March 2nd, 2021 for the Nintendo Switch.
