World Of Warcraft: 12 Best Transmog Sets For Rogues | Game Rant

Those RPG players who align with the dark and stealthy archetype need proper armor to match, and World of Warcraft rogues are no exception. Over the years, the development team released some incredible sets for the class with some of the most iconic dating all the way back to the beginning. It goes to show that it’s not just 3D pieces and high definition art that stands the test of time.

Rogues, just like every other class, experience a different flavor or a different setting in each expansion. As time in Azeroth passes, players see everything from dark, broody, and evil to chivalrous and heroic-themed sets. With so much to choose from, the right set for individual rogues comes down to who they are and who they want to be.

Updated February 22, 2021, by Christopher Fain. The release of the Shadowlands expansion brings new opportunities for rogues to step up their transmog game. Overall, the Venthyr Covenant comes closest to really matching a good style for them. Their aesthetics are both noble and deadly, which really builds up the fantasy of an aristocrat with a dark side or highly-trained assassin.

The Venthyr aren’t the only source of interesting armor for rogues, however. New dungeon and legendary sets really up the ante on what’s possible. Even the regular quest gear looks nice.

12 Ebony Death Shroud

The premier Venthyr-themed set for rogues is none other than the Ebony Death Shroud set. To obtain it, rogues must be allied with the Venthyr, and must also complete several chapters of the campaign. Those assassins who want to look wickedly wealthy while sneaking around Revendreth, look no further. All pieces are purchasable from the Sinfall Quartermasters for 100 anima each.

The Ebony Deathshroud comes with a full cover mask, adorned with glowing, red eyes and a smokey, red aura. There are plenty of 3D pieces with spikes and skulls as well as black leather and red velvet, all screaming to be warn by a vampire lover. The set matches well with Zink’s Subtle Shank, a random world drop in Shadowlands.

11 Custom: Witch Hunter

Want to live out a Warhammer Witch Hunter fantasy in a WoW rogue transmog? Or does Azeroth just need a little more Bloodborne in its world? Either way, this custom Witch Hunter set, using a Mythic recolor of the leather raid set, is a great option. This rogue transmog includes:

  • Sadist’s Sinister Mask (dropped from Sire Denathrius, Castle Nathria)
  • Corset of the Deft Duelist (dropped from Castellan Niklaus, Castle Nathria)
  • Bleakwing Assassin’s Grips (dropped from Kael’thas Sunstrider, Castle Nathria)
  • Heedless Pugilist’s Harness (dropped from Sludgefist, Castle Nathria)
  • Chiropteran Leggings (dropped from Shriekwings, Castle Nathria)
  • Enchanted Toe-Tappers (dropped from Castellan Niklaus, Castle Nathria)

The set’s aesthetic is very reminiscent to that of Warhammer Fantasy’s Empire faction. It comes with a top hat, a covered face, and a stunning jacket with a 3D collar and lower half. Additionally, vials of blood line the waist, making for an exceptionally dark set. This armor pairs well with the War Scholar’s Bonesaw, a reward from the quest, “The Ladder,” in Maldraxxus. It’s eerily similar to some of the weapons in Bloodborne.

10 Bloodfang Armor

One of the most iconic sets for playing a rogue was one of the originals known as the Bloodfang Armor. For a time, this armor set fully embodied what it meant to be a dark assassin in World of WarCraft. It has a black and red color scheme, masked hood, and spikey pauldrons that emit a dark aura. The full rogue transmog includes:

  • Bloodfang Hood (dropped from Nefarian, Blackwing Lair)
  • Bloodfang Spaulders (dropped from Chromaggus, Blackwing Lair)
  • Bloodfang Chestpiece (dropped from Nefarian, Blackwing Lair)
  • Bloodfang Bracers (dropped from Razorgore the Untamed, Blackwing Lair)
  • Bloodfang Gloves (dropped from Ebonroc, Flamegor, and Firemaw, Blackwing Lair)
  • Bloodfang Belt (dropped from Vaelastrasz the Corrupt, Blackwing Lair)
  • Bloodfang Pants (dropped from Ragnaros, Molten Core)
  • Bloodfang Boots (dropped from Broodlord Lashlayer, Blackwing Lair)

The set pairs quite well with a blade known as Malchazeen. This one-hand dagger follows a similar color scheme and gives off a menacing, red smoke. Malchazeen drops from Prince Malchezaar in the original level 70 Karazhan raid.

9 Sootfur Garb

Those wanting a more grounded appearance for their rogue might prefer something subtle like the Sootfur Garb. It’s a violet-colored leather set with one of the best hood designs in the game. The shoulders and hood are made of wrinkled, violet leather and lined with what appears to be iron. The chest piece takes a different approach, adding more defense to the core. This rogue set includes:

  • Sootfur Cap (dropped from Blackhand, Blackrock Foundry)
  • Sootfur Shoulderguards (dropped from Operator Thogar, Blackrock Foundry)
  • Sootfur Harness (dropped from Flamebender Ka’graz, Blackrock Foundry)
  • Sootfur Gauntlets (dropped from Admiral Gar’an, Marak the Blooded, and Enforcer Sorka, Blackrock Foundry)
  • Sootfur Legwraps (dropped from Heart of the Mountain and Foreman Feldspar, Blackrock Foundry)
  • Sootfur Stompers (dropped from Kromog, Blackrock Foundry)

It may be difficult to find an appropriate weapon to match the violet color scheme, but the Mythic recolor of the Bloodstained Ritual Athame comes pretty close. An undulating tentacle twists around the C’thulu-esque blade, which drops from Prophet Skitra in Ny’alotha.

8 Regalia of the Dashing Scoundrel

Steal from the rich and give to the poor with the Regalia of the Dashing Scoundrel. As one of the most modernized and 3D sets, it makes for a rogue that stands out like no other in the game. Not to mention, it’s perfect for a Vulpera. It comes with a unique, Rennaissance-era feathered hat, a large collar, a set of golden armor plates on the hands and knees, and a collection of extra blades on the chest and belt. The set also includes large, bulky shoulder pieces, but they tend to clip with the oversized collar. Collect every piece of this stunning rogue transmog from Antorus:

  • Cavalier Hat of the Dashing Scoundrel (dropped from Aggramar)
  • Shoulderpads of the Dashing Scoundrel (dropped from Asara, Mother of Night, and Noura, Mother of Flames)
  • Cloak of the Dashing Scoundrel (dropped from Admiral Svirax)
  • Vest of the Dashing Scoundrel (dropped from Essence of Eonar)
  • Gloves of the Dashing Scoundrel (dropped from Kin’garoth)
  • Pants of the Dashing Scoundrel (dropped from Imonar the Soulhunter)

Combine it with the Portal Keeper’s Cincture from Antorus and Vile Drifter’s Footpads from Matron Folnuna in her greater invasion point for the complete look. The set pairs really well with the Dreadblade’s Fencer’s Reach skin from Legion.

7 Custom: Mageblade of Dalaran

If the usual sets don’t pique a rogue’s interest, it’s time to get creative. Even without the necessary lore support, the custom Mageblade of Dalaran set makes for a unique and eye-popping look. It uses pieces of the leather set from Wailing Caverns to make for a Dalaran-themed magical rogue. It follows the typical Dalaran and Violet Eye color schemes while still feeling completely new. The pieces of this WoW rogue transmog includes:

  • Mana Saber Hide Hood (random world drop, Legion)
  • Ancient Spellcloak of the Highborne (dropped from Doom Lord Kazzak, Hellfire Peninsula)
  • Armor of the Fang (dropped from Lord Pythas, Wailing Caverns)
  • Headhunter’s Mitts (random world drops, Kalimdor)
  • Belt of the Fang (dropped from Lady Anacondra, Wailing Caverns)
  • Leggings of the Fang (dropped from Lord Cobrahn, Wailing Caverns)
  • Headhunter’s Slippers (random world drops, Kalimdor)

The matching blade, Ced’s Carver, is a random world drop from The Burning Crusade.

6 Sanctified Shadowblade’s Battlegear

A set coveted by many a rogue is the one that makes them look like a geist from Icecrown Citadel. Lucky for them, it comes from that exact citadel. The Sanctified Shadowblade’s Battlegear is the heroic 10-man recolor of the set. Purchase the base pieces of the set from the rogue vendor in Icecrown Citadel, then run the heroic version of the raid for Vanquisher’s Marks of Sanctification. These tokens, along with the base pieces, can be used at the same vendors to purchase the sanctified version of the set.

To get the full look, obtain the heroic recolor of Astrylian’s Sutured Cinch from Professor Putricide and the heroic recolor of the Frostbitten Fur Boots from Marrowgar, both in Icecrown Citadel. For an extra pop, go for a weapon that really stands out such as the Shard of Azzinoth, a glowing green blade that drops from Illidan in Black Temple.

5 Netherblade

Become an interstellar stalker of the shadows with the Netherblade armor. This fantastic set from The Burning Crusade makes for a dark and otherworldly look. The eyes glow in an icy blue light while a black fog emits from the shoulder pieces. Each piece is purchasable from the Keeper of Sha’tari Artifacts in either the Aldor or Scryer hubs of Shattrath City for Fallen Champion tokens from raids.

For the full look, go for the Girdle of Treachery from the Echo of Medivh and the Rapscallion Boots from the Shade of Aran, both in Karazhan. A set like this requires a weapon that looks just as dark and menacing, and the heroic recolor of the Electrowing Dagger is a great option. It drops from Hagara the Stomrbinder in Dragon Soul.

4 Fanged Slayer’s Armor

As with the other Tomb of Sargeras sets, Blizzard took the opportunity to update one of the older existing sets. Fanged Slayer is the new version of the Slayer’s armor from The Burning Crusade. This new update includes several new 3D additions such as the jewel or globe on the chest piece, the bulbous gloves, and the jeweled object on the boots. It’s a very detailed and stunning set perfect for any rogue, including:

  • Fanged Slayer’s Helm (dropped from Atrigan)
  • Fanged Slayer’s Shoulderpads (dropped from Fallen Avatar)
  • Fanged Slayer’s Shroud (dropped from Engine of Souls and The Desolate Host)
  • Fanged Slayer’s Chestguard (dropped from Maiden of Vigilance)
  • Fanged Slayer’s Handguards (dropped from Harjatan)
  • Fanged Slayer’s Legguards (Mistress Sassz’ine)

For the full collection, obtain the Cinch of Sizzling Flesh from Goroth and the Felscape Pathfinders from the Fallen Avatar, both in Tomb of Sargeras. The set matches really well with The Kingslayer’s Heartstopper skin from Legion.

3 Barbed Assassin Battlegear

One of the standouts for rogues from the Mists of Pandaria sets is the heroic recolor of the Barbed Assassin Battlegear. The shoulders are adorned with giant spikes and the set includes a menacing facemask, making the wearer seem like a dangerous threat. In the shoulders, helm, gloves, and belt exist small windows of glowing, blue energy, evoking the ancient past of the Mogu and the Pandaren. The set includes:

  • Helmet of the Barbed Assassin (dropped from Clarice Chapmann from Shrine of Seven Stars for Horde, from Ki’agnuu in Shrine of Two Moons for Alliance)
  • Spaulders of the Barbed Assassin (dropped from Clarice Chapmann from Shrine of Seven Stars for Horde, from Ki’agnuu in Shrine of Two Moons for Alliance)
  • Tunic of the Barbed Assassin (dropped from Clarice Chapmann from Shrine of Seven Stars for Horde, from Ki’agnuu in Shrine of Two Moons for Alliance)
  • Gloves of the Barbed Assassin (dropped from Chi-Ji, Niuzao, Xuen, and Yu’lon, Timeless Isle)
  • Legguards of the Barbed Assassin (dropped from Chi-Ji, Niuzao, Xuen, and Yu’lon, Timeless Isle)

For the full look, go for Damron’s Belt of Darkness (Earthbreaker Haromm, Wavebinder Kardris) and Pandaren Roofsprinters (Secured Stockpile of Pandaren Spoils) from bosses in heroic Siege of Orgrimmar. The heroic recolor of Norushen’s Shortblade matches perfectly with it, dropping from Amalgam of Corruption and Norushen of the same raid. However, its recolor may no longer be available.

2 Deathmantle

Another iconic addition to the list of World of WarCraft’s most memorable sets is the Deathmantle. It’s a unique set unlike anything else in the game with an almost cyberpunk feel to it. The hood comes with a metallic skull mask with glowing pink eyes which resonate through other pieces of the set. Many rogues would love to see this set come back with an update, more menacing than ever.

Each piece of the Deathmantle set is earned from Vanquished Champion tokens from various bosses within Serpentshrine Cavern and The Eye in The Burning Crusade. Obtain the matching Boots of Effortless Striking from The Lurker Below in Serpentshrine Cavern. Since the textures show their age, pair it with newer pieces that make it pop such as the Belt of Braided Vessels from Il’gynoth in Ny’alotha. The Shadow Dagger, a random world drop in The Burning Crusade, is a subtle but impactful addition to the set as well.

1 Wrathful Gladiator’s Leather

PvE content isn’t the only source of devilish good looks for a rogue. The Wrathful Gladiator’s Leather set from Wrath of the Lich King has a striking silhouette made for intimidation. The season 8 set is now available as an Ensemble purchase from the Wrathful Gladiator vendor in the Wrath of the Lich King version of Dalaran for 12 Marks of Honor. The helm completely encases the wearer’s head and the shoulder curls up into giant, sharp blades.

The ensemble does not include the belt and boots, however. The Belt of Triumph and Boots of Triumph both drop from bosses in Vault of Archavon in Wrath of the Lich King. The armor pairs well with Namlak’s Supernumerary Sticker, an epic world drop in the same expansion.
