Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Everything Players Need to Prepare for Toy Day

Last month, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players celebrated Turkey Day, the Thanksgiving-inspired event that saw the arrival of Franklin, the Turkey villager on the island. Now, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is set to host its next big in-game event next week, which will celebrate Toy Day, the game’s take on the Christmas holiday.

It is worth remembering that the Toy Day event is not new in the Animal Crossing franchise. Veteran players would know that Toy Day has been celebrated in the game ever since the first Animal Crossing title for the Nintendo GameCube. While the majority of the event will mostly remain the same, Nintendo is offering some unique twists for New Horizons players to make the experience fresh. Now, here is everything players need to do in preparation for Toy Day.

Like Turkey Day and Halloween, the upcoming Toy Day island will see the addition of holiday-themed objects, furniture, and DIY recipes in New Horizons. Given that Toy Day won’t begin until December 24th, players still have tons of time decorating their island to bring them and their villagers in a festive mood. Additionally, Nintendo just released ornaments in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which can be found when shaking trees both in the northern and southern hemispheres. Overall, there are three types of ornaments: red, blue, and yellow, and these items can be used to craft new furniture sets for the holiday season.

For players interested in making the most out of ornaments, here is a list of all the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Ornaments DIY recipes:

  • Big festive tree
  • Festive top set
  • Festive tree
  • Holiday candle
  • Illuminated present
  • Illuminated reindeer
  • Illuminated snowflakes
  • Illuminated tree
  • Jingle wall
  • Ornament mobile
  • Ornament wreath
  • Tabletop festive tree

At the start of December, Nook’s Cranny began offering toys in its seasonal items section. These toys can be used as additional decorations that players can display on their islands, or they can be used as gifts for the player’s favorite villager. So far, toys come in a range of colors and patterns, but players interested in getting every single toy that the game offers may have to travel to the islands of other players to get the full set.

Apart from toys, players can get a wide assortment of holiday-themed outfits from the Able Sisters. Unfortunately, it appears that the selection of costumes for Toy Day is not as varied as those offered on Halloween, but players should still expect plenty of options. Of course, those who are not content with the Able Sisters’ outfits can always customize their own.

As previously mentioned, Toy Day starts in Animal Crossing: New Horizons on December 24th. Unfortunately, Nintendo has blocked players from traveling forward in time to ensure that all players will experience the upcoming event simultaneously. Similar to Turkey Day, Toy Day will commence at 9 AM local time and will see the arrival of Jingle the Reindeer on the island.

To new Animal Crossing: New Horizons players who do not know who Jingle is, the reindeer has been a staple in previous Animal Crossing games, serving as the star of Toy Day. During the event, Jingle will give players a bag of gifts that they must deliver to the right villagers. Jingle will reward players with a gift of their own in exchange for delivering gifts, though it is still a mystery what players will receive from Jingle this year.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now for the Nintendo Switch.
