Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red announced on Monday that players disappointed in the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game can seek a refund. If purchased digitally, players were encouraged to use the PlayStation or Xbox refund system, and if purchased physically, to try to refund at the store. However, since stores have differing return policies, refunds could not be universally guaranteed. Now, as fans are attempting to return the title, some stores are making exceptions to refund policies for Cyberpunk 2077.
Electronics retailer Best Buy is the latest storefront to allow refunds of physical copies of Cyberpunk 2077. According to official Best Buy forum, the refund policy covers PlayStation 4 and Xbox One physical copies, as well as Xbox One digital codes. For the $250 Collector’s Edition, players will have to return all content in order to receive a refund, and for pre-orders, the exclusive steelbook case must be returned as well for the refund.
CD Projekt Red has also offered help with refunds for Cyberpunk 2077 through an email listed in its refund announcement, but will only be active until December 21. In turn, Best Buy is only allowing refunds until December 21, so players only have a few days to take advantage of the refund offer.
Xbox and PlayStation are facing similar decisions with digital copies of the title, but have reportedly taken different stances regarding refunds. While PlayStation has removed Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation store and is reportedly denying some refunds and accepting others, Xbox announced this morning that full refunds are being offered for Cyberpunk 2077 until further notice, but will remain for sale in the Microsoft Store.
CD Projekt Red issued a statement today stating that it is “working hard” to bring Cyberpunk 2077 back to the PlayStation Store and will continue to support the PlayStation 4 version with updates and bug fixes. The console version of the title has been riddled with bugs and technical issues, with players seemingly mislead by pre-release footage and CD Projekt Red admitting to not spending enough time on the console versions. CD Projekt Red has detailed ways to it intends to improve the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game along with an apology to fans for lack of transparency.
While fans can seek refunds for the console versions, Cyberpunk 2077 will still release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in 2021, which is hopefully enough time to work out the technical problems. Fans can hold onto the current-gen version for a free upgrade, but stores may be only offering refunds for a limited time, like Best Buy’s refund offer that extends until December 21.
Cyberpunk 2077 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
