CD Projekt Red Promises to Bring Cyberpunk 2077 Back to PlayStation Store ASAP

Cyberpunk 2077 has had a rough week. Early Cyberpunk 2077 reviews were largely positive, though it turned out those reviews were for versions of the game running on high-end PCs, and not the console versions. Shortly after launch, it became apparent that there were serious issues with the Cyberpunk 2077 console versions, and those problems combined with the typical crop of bugs often found in open world games caused CD Projekt Red to promise refunds to any disgruntled consumers.

However, it then came to light that CD Projekt Red didn’t exactly have an agreement in place with PlayStation or Microsoft to offer these refunds, which caused some more conflict. Now Sony has removed Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store, a virtually unprecedented move for a triple-A video game. CD Projekt Red has since issued a statement about Cyberpunk 2077‘s removal from the PlayStation Store, pointing out that those interested can still buy the game at physical retail locations and stating that it is “working hard” to make Cyberpunk 2077 available for purchase on the PlayStation Store yet again.

While Cyberpunk 2077 is not available digitally to PlayStation gamers right now, that doesn’t mean the PlayStation versions of the game will be ignored. CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 will keep getting the same updates released for the other versions of the game designed to fix its problems and make it a better experience in a general sense. It’s possible that fans will have to wait for these updates to be released before they will see Cyberpunk 2077 return to the PlayStation Store.

This shocking development is just the latest in a string of Cyberpunk 2077 controversies that the game has been struggling with since launch. What was once presumed to be one of 2020’s biggest game releases has turned out to be somewhat of a disaster for those involved, with CD Projekt Red’s stock plummeting as a result of all the negative publicity. It has also gone a long way in harming the company’s reputation, which is a shame as it was once held in such high regard by the gaming community.

Considering all of the issues Cyberpunk 2077 has had since launch, it seems as though it would have been best to delay the game again to bring the current-gen versions up to snuff. However, if there was yet another Cyberpunk 2077 delay, CD Projekt Red would have caught serious flak for that as well. As some may recall, the latest Cyberpunk 2077 delay saw the developers flooded with death threats, and another delay could have triggered a similar reaction. It seems that the developers were going to run into problems regardless of which decision was made.

Hopefully by the time Cyberpunk 2077 releases on PS5 and Xbox Series X, its mostly serious technical issues will be resolved and the game can maybe get a second chance at a first impression. Then again, it’s possible that the damage is done, and there is no coming back for Cyberpunk 2077. Time will tell.

Cyberpunk 2077 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
