After more than three years, Bungie’s looter-shooter Destiny 2 is still going strong. The game topped Steam charts with its newest expansion, wowed players with a suspenseful Raid, and rejuvenated an old villain with a tragic new story. This week, players started grinding away the winter holiday event, The Dawning. Its seasonal pursuits ask Guardians to accumulate large amounts of limited time currencies, which include ingredients. However, as suspected, an old trick can still be used to make the most out of the event and generate resources while AFK.
The Dawning once again features Eva Levante’s Oven, a crafting station where players can combine ingredients to bake gifts for their favorite Destiny characters. The event will still go on for two more weeks, so players do have time if they want to engage in the activities as intended. However, some extra materials can’t hurt because the rewards for baking treats include three limited-time weapons, which have randomly rolled perks, including some newly introduced ones.
This AFK trick utilizes the so-called Thrall room inside the Shattered Throne dungeon, a place Forsaken players are well acquainted with. It is located after the dungeon’s first encounter which can easily be done solo with just a little bit of patience. Players need to be on bottom tree Sunbreaker Titan for this method to work. Once inside the Thrall room, the player needs to situate themselves in a corner where they can’t be pushed by the hoards of Taken Thralls.
When ready, all the player needs to do is get a Solar ability kill on a nearby Taken Thrall. The final blow will leave a Sunspot in its wake, a damaging AoE field. Any Taken Thrall that walks through it will succumb to the flames and create another Sunspot because they died to a Solar ability. This cycle repeats so long as the player isn’t kicked from the activity or dies somehow. Killing Taken Thrall this way nets the player Taken Butter, Multifaceted Flavors, and Impossible Heat ingredients.
After stocking up, players can combine that Taken Butter with Impossible Heat and any Dawning Essence they have lying around to bake Burnt Edge Transits. This is a failed recipe, but taking it to Master Rahool will still give players some Dawning Spirit as well as fully refunding the Dawning Essence used in the “failed” treat. This means players can generate Dawning Spirit so long as they have the ingredients from the Thrall Room.
