Justice League was meant to be an Avenger‘s style climax to the DC Extended Universe which had been shepherded by Zack Snyder. Due to a personal family tragedy, Snyder stepped down and was replaced by Joss Whedon, who made significant changes and helped the film get to theaters. Ray Fisher, who played Cyborg, has publicly accused Joss Whedon and Warner Bros. executives of abusive behavior on set. He has since been joined by Gal Gadot, who also hinted at a conflict with the replacement director.
More information regarding the situation has come to light, but recently Warner Bros.’ internal investigation came to a conclusion, with Ray Fisher seeming happy with the results so far. Similarly, other actors like Jason Momoa have come to Fisher’s defense, supporting his fight for accountability, though not explicitly levying any criticism at Joss Whedon directly. Recently in an LA Times interview, Gadot, who plays Wonder Woman, indicated that she had also had a negative experience working with Whedon, making her the latest big star to publicly admit having difficulties with the director.
Gadot declined to comment on Fisher’s specific accusations but was supportive of Fisher in the broad strokes. “I’m happy for Ray to go out and speak his truth,” she said, before adding her own experience with the director. “I wasn’t there with the guys when they shot with Joss Whedon — I had my own experience with [him], which wasn’t the best one, but I took care of it there and when it happened. I took it to the higher-ups and they took care of it. But I’m happy for Ray to go up and say his truth.” Whatever the issue was, Gadot declined to elaborate, and it seems that at the very least, the situation was resolved to her satisfaction.
In an interview with Variety, Gadot stated that she was confident the investigation into Fisher’s claims would be thorough and fair. When Warner Bros. made a public statement about the results, she did admit, however, that the phrasing was somewhat vague. When asked what Warner Bros. meant by “remedial action” she responded, “I don’t know what [remedial action] means either, I’m curious to know what’s going to be the outcome.”
At this time, it’s unclear if that information will ever be made public, or if any serious action will be taken against those accused.
