Live-Action Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Trailer Highlights ‘Gunfight Game Show’

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War recently kicked off its first post-launch Season, with plenty of new content being added to the game. One game mode making a comeback is Gunfight, with Activision releasing a special live action trailer to get Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players excited about the mode’s return.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was confirmed to get its own version of Gunfight a week before Season 1, with the mode being playable in-game right now. Offering players four different maps to play on, a fair amount of content is already available in the 2v2 mode, and Activision has put some effort into promoting this major Season 1 addition. Releasing a zany live action trailer called “Gunfight Game Show,” the news is certainly getting out regarding the popular game mode’s return.

The trailer takes place on a fictional game show set, which also serves as an in-game Gunfight map. Featuring a fake game show host called Alexei Popanovski alongside intentionally cheesy dialogue and graphics, the live action trailer perfectly captures the 1980s setting of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The game show is also given a hilarious name that references the original Black Ops campaign, as “What Do The Numbers Mean?” is a clear callback to protagonist Alex Mason and his brainwashing.

With weird game show prizes like tanks being awarded to the trailer’s contestants, the goofy teaser was met with a positive reaction in the comments section. Some players said that the trailer looks like an in-universe Grand Theft Auto show, with others believing this is what people watch before entering Call of Duty: Warzone’s gulag. With moments of 2v2 gameplay mixed into the lighthearted Gunfight Game Show trailer, the video successfully hypes up both the mode and the map.

It will be interested to see how Gunfight evolves in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. One of the most popular modes in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Infinity Ward eventually added a Gunfight Tournament system to the game, spicing up matches and making players more invested in securing a win. While Season 1 of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War only reintroduces the popular game mode, it will be interesting to see what spins Treyarch puts on the gameplay going forward.

For now, though, Call of Duty players have a silly new trailer to go with the mode’s welcome return. Joining Rebirth Island in Call of Duty: Warzone as well as new Zombies modes and 6v6 multiplayer maps, there is a whole lot for fans to do in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s inaugural season.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
