CD Projekt Red has finally released Cyberpunk 2077 after spending 8 years in development. Initially, Cyberpunk 2077 was a hit, with the PC version breaking Steam’s record for concurrent users. Unfortunately, the same couldn’t be said for Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS4 and Xbox One due to the proliferation of bugs and glitches that had many players calling for a refund.
A few days after launch, CD Projekt Red issued an apology, admitting that the studio did not spend much time on these versions of the game. This caused an outrage among players on last-gen base consoles, resulting in Microsoft and Sony issuing refunds to customers, with the latter removing Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store until further notice. The big question now is, should players affected by the bugs and glitches refund the game?
Currently, Cyberpunk 2077 is still in a rough state, which goes to show that the console versions are, effectively, still not ready to be released. In a statement released by CD Projekt Red, the studio admitted that it “ignored the signal about the need for additional time to refine the game in the base last-gen consoles.” On the bright side of things, while Cyberpunk 2077 is riddled with bugs and glitches, most of them are fixable through a content update.
Although CD Projekt Red recently released a hotfix targeting quest bugs and crashing, it will probably take a while before the game is polished to a near-perfect state, or even a playable one at that. Having said that, players whose only concern is the bugs present in Cyberpunk 2077 should probably hold on to the game, given that CD Projekt Red is working on improving the game’s overall experience.
Apart from the bugs and glitches present in Cyberpunk 2077, some PS4 and Xbox One players were disappointed with the game’s overall look on those consoles. To be fair, the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game will never live up to the graphics on the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, but some were disappointed given that CD Projekt Red only showed footage of Cyberpunk 2077 on the PC and next-gen consoles.
Not to mention, CD Projekt Red did not provide review copies of Cyberpunk 2077 for PS4 and Xbox One, which is why no one was able to report on the current state of the game. This resulted in some players having high-expectations of what Cyberpunk 2077 will look like on the base PS4 and Xbox One, and if this is a major concern, then players have two options to consider. First, players can hold on to their PS4 and Xbox One copies and upgrade to the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions once released in 2021. On the other hand, players can refund the game and get it on the PC instead, or refund it now and pick it up again later, likely at a cheaper price. If players only concern is bugs, then waiting is the best, but if players are experiencing a lot more game-breaking issues, then a refund, even if ultimately temporary, may just be wise.
As previously mentioned, CD Projekt Red has just released an update that targets to fix some of the glaring issues found in Cyberpunk 2077. However, given the massive content the game offers, this hotfix has barely scratched the surface of the game’s issues. At the moment, it is difficult to predict when CD Projekt Red will be able to iron out at least most of the bugs and glitches present in Cyberpunk 2077. Still, on the optimistic side, a huge update will probably be released sometime in January or February of 2021, assuming that the studio won’t have to delay these patches.
In the end, the decision on whether or not to refund Cyberpunk 2077 all boils down to just how much players are bothered with the issues in the game. Despite the glaring problems, some players still enjoyed Cyberpunk 2077’s story and gameplay. However, for those who think that the current state of the game is not worth its price, it is best to request a refund now, given that Sony and Microsoft may not be accommodating once CD Projekt Red makes significant progress in fixing Cyberpunk 2077.
