It’s been out for little over a week, but Cyberpunk 2077 has already sparked interest in the modding community. Though the game doesn’t officially support mods out of the box, that doesn’t mean they aren’t there, or can’t be taken advantage of. The work thus far is in the early stages, but there’s already quite a lot of mods for gamers to play with.
Some of these mods boost visual excellence, while others manipulate the game’s menus, options and control schemes. Here’s the ten best from the first round of mods that the community has created within the first week of release. Hopefully this is the start of something big.
10 Cyberpunk 2077 Mod Manager
Skyrim modding vets know how important mod managers are for keeping track of a game’s mods. They make the installation and organization process quite easy, and many games have their own mod managers written by community members to make the process much easier.
Cyberpunk 2077 Mod Manager is one of the first, and best. The mod author warns of bugs as development progresses, to this should be used in experimental fashion rather than as a stable long-term solution. There’s even a cruel surprise thrown in to scare the pants off first-time users, so take it with a grain of salt.
9 Cyberpunk Autonomous ReShade – True HDR
Reshade presets aren’t nearly as taxing on games as an ENB lighting scheme, which is good news for Cyberpunk 2077 players looking to maximize their FPS. Cyberpunk Autonomous ReShade – True HDR is a good choice for bringing out the color saturation, contrast and sharpness of the game’s visuals.
The mod utilizes only a few Reshade effects to achieve its look, resulting in a much clearer and more vivid picture. This is especially good for those who do not have an HDR monitor by default, and want a more vibrant graphics experience.
8 Draw Distance Boost
If performance is not a factor, and your machine is powerful enough to handle the game’s already heavy requirements, then consider using Draw Distance Boost to really max out the graphics. Nobody likes pop-in. It breaks immersion and detracts away from the believability of the game world.
This mod does exactly what the title suggests, but it will come with a performance hit. Try it out to see if there’s a healthy balance between detail and FPS, otherwise wait a while for more optimization patches.
7 Better Vehicle Handling
Vehicle driving in video games such as Grand Theft Auto and Cyberpunk 2077 tends to be a subjective affair, with some gamers loving the out-of-box controls, and others wishing to refine it. Whatever the case, it’s clear that Cyberpunk 2077’s driving mechanics are a bit on the touchy side.
Better Vehicle Handling seeks to remedy that problem with 3 different mod versions offering different kinds of control tweaks. Try them all out to determine which one suits your particular play style, and driving may become a better in-game experience.
6 Performance Patch Ram-Pool-Optimizer
Many Cyberpunk 2077 graphics performance guides are popping up of late from gamers who have discovered tricks to squeeze more FPS out of the game. One of the biggest tweaks thus far is a RAM pool trick that can leverage one’s computer hardware beyond the vanilla settings.
Those who aren’t technically minded may wish to utilize Performance Patch Ram-Pool-Optimizer, which is a set of configuration files designed to max out the game on different system builds. Simply pick one from the list that best suits your machine, and follow the drag n’ drop installation instructions. There’s even a vanilla copy of the file in case you need to revert back to default.
5 Better Controls (Diagonal Movement Fix Update)
Out-of-box controls in Cyberpunk 2077 aren’t all they’re cracked up to be, and there’s minimal elbow room for customize exactly to one’s liking from the in-game menu. Better Controls is a mod that attempts to circumvent this by adding some more options into the mix.
The result is a more fluid control scheme that swaps the Activate key from F to E, introduces a single-tap dodge button, and offers options such as dialogue bypass keys for an easier play experience. It may not suit everyone’s tastes, but many gamers may prefer this control scheme.
4 More Options
The title says it best. More Options unlocks all the game’s options from within the menu, even ones most gamers didn’t realize existed. The result is more control over the game’s settings in order to customize and craft a unique play experience. Everything from text size to HDR settings can be fiddled with.
The only caveat to such a mod is that future updates may break its functionality, but this isn’t certain just yet. Make sure to make a backup of your settings before implementing the mod, just in case.
3 Wetter Roads RTX
Gamers with an RTX video card and ray-tracing headroom can make the game appear more dramatic and atmospheric with Wetter Roads RTX. It basically does what the title suggests – make everything look a lot wetter. This is handy, especially for nighttime immersion.
Make sure to read the Posts section of the mod page for solutions to common graphical problems that may pop up. Otherwise, hose everything down to a eye-watering sheen and enjoy the atmosphere.
2 All-Natural Enhancements (Reshade)
Reshade presets are a lot less taxing than full-fledged ray-tracing, making them great alternatives for gamers who want a major boost in graphical fidelity without hemorrhaging massive amounts of frames. All-Natural Enhancements (Reshade) is one such mod that does exactly that.
It boosts the game’s graphical vibrance and natural glowing light sources to create a brilliant picture bursting with color and detail, all while keeping the game playable. Implementing it should be a solid alternative to ray-tracing for users with less powerful machines.
1 Cyber Engine Tweaks
For mods that deal in bug and performance fixes, Cyber Engine Tweaks is one of the top-rated for Cyberpunk 2077 thus far. This collection of tweaks fixes AVX crashes while introducing a lot of neat hacks into the game, such as enabling the Debug menu.
It also comes with a built-in AMD SMT usage fix for any gamer rocking a Ryzen or similar AMD-based CPU, which could yield some performance gains. For tinkerers who like cracking open a game to see what can be done, this is definitely the mod of choice.
