Call of Duty: Warzone has a lot of new content coming on the horizon with the start of Cold War’s Season One integration. Already, fans got the major bomb dropped on them that the fan-favorite character Soap was coming to Warzone sometime soon.
Now, it seems that Call of Duty is seemingly celebrating Warzone and Black Ops Cold War’s next season with a merch drop. The official Call of Duty Twitter account is currently hosting a “Flash Drop” around Warzone that offers players the chance to buy a cap with the word “gulag” across the front of it.
Now that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is out, the game is being integrated with Infinity Ward’s ongoing battle royale title, Call of Duty: Warzone. Though some Modern Warfare fans are upset at this integration, it seems like Activision is set on this new path for Warzone. In fact, Warzone’s Season 6 content has reset to coincide with Black Ops Cold War’s Season One content. Now, Call of Duty is currently celebrating this fresh start with an exclusive merch drop on the game’s official Snapchat.
The announcement comes by way of the Call of Duty Twitter account, asking players to “follow us on Snapchat to make sure you don’t miss out.” It appears that this merch drop may be an exclusive sale tied to this “Flash Drop” sale. The “Flash Drop” sale features a solid black ballcap with the word “gulag” written across the front, referencing Call of Duty: Warzone’s gulag arena. This Gulag Cap appears to be selling for $30, not including shipping costs.
This is the first time that Activision and Call of Duty have offered up official merchandise for a limited time exclusively on one platform. While it’s certainly a novel idea, it was an announcement that seemed to come completely out of the left field. For those consumers interested in picking up a cap, they should head to Call of Duty’s official Snapchat as soon as they can. Call of Duty has had merch lines in the past to promote past games, but this is certainly an interesting direction to take future merchandise drops.
Of course, this could simply be a one-time offer for fans interesting in grabbing this specific piece of Call of Duty merchandise. Now that Call of Duty: Warzone’s story has ended, at least as far as Modern Warfare goes, fans are eager to see where Black Ops Cold War takes Warzone next. Fans know that Soap is coming to the game in some form and that the team stopped the planned nuke on Verdansk, but what comes next still remains a mystery.
