A recent Fortnite leak reveals a car with a mounted gun turret is in the works. Having previously mounted weapons on water and air vehicles, Fortnite‘s new car would be a first-of-its-kind for the game.
Epic Games’ popular battle royale is now well into its fifth season of Chapter 2. Fortnite recently kicked off their annual winter holiday-themed event in the form of Operation Snowdown, which gives players the chance to earn some festive cosmetics.
Reliable Fortnite dataminer VastBlast took to Twitter to post that Epic had left some clues within the games files about work on a vehicle with a mounted gun turret. Posted December 18, the assumption stems from two files in particular: one titled “AFortDagwoodVehicle:ApplyVehicleModMountedGun”, and “MountedGunData.” VastBlast speculates on the file’s relation to upcoming creative mods. Unfortunately, the information about the potential new vehicle ends there, so gamers will just have to wait and see what else is being cooked up for the rest of the season.
Many players are theorizing that the new vehicle may be none other than the UNSC’s ride of choice, the Warthog. It’s already been revealed that Halo‘s Master Chief is coming to Fortnite, along with an LTM featuring the Xbox flagship franchise’s Blood Gulch. The addition of Warthogs would therefore be a sensible addition. It’s currently unclear if or when the vehicle will arrive on the island, or whether its availability will be restricted to the Halo-themed LTM.
Fortnite has been pulling out all the stops for its latest season, bringing in unexpected characters from different universes. These include God of War‘s Kratos, The Mandalorian‘s Din Djarin and, most recently, Daryl and Michonne from The Walking Dead universe. The addition of Master Chief marks one of the first instances players can play as both a PlayStation and Xbox-exclusive character in the same game, which many see as an achievement in itself. Master Chief’s presence is also the closest thing gamers are going to get to a new Halo game for a while, as it was recently announced that Halo Infinite isn’t launching until Fall 2021.
The rumored addition of the Warthog should get many Fortnite fans excited. Not only is it an iconic video game vehicle, but it would also be the first land-based vehicle that has explicitly offensive capabilities. While there are a lot of gamers who are waiting for Halo to make the jump to the next console generation, Epic is offering some next-gen upgrades of their own. The game’s most recent update has added a “120 FPS Mode” for PS5 and Xbox Series X owners, which (obviously) enables Fortnite to run at 120 FPS.
Fortnite is free-to-play for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
