A strange new Apex Legends bug is launching players high into the sky on the new Olympus map. While some players found the glitch amusing at first, they quickly found out that falling back down to the map crashed the entire game.
While Apex Legends was one of the most popular battle royal titles of the year, bugs in the game remain a common occurrence. This is especially true on Olympus, as recent bugs have ranged from players falling through the map to causing pathfinders to fly around like a boomerang. Some fans find these glitches hilarious for breaking the game’s physics, but they often result in crashing the game or ruining the player experience. This latest bug is no exception.
The glitch occurs randomly when players collide with vehicles, launching them sky-high. Players are given a great bird’s-eye-view of the Olympus map as they are shot upwards, but they only have a few seconds to enjoy the view before their legend and the game comes crashing down.
A Reddit user by the name of Jolly-Moment posted about their experience with the bug, calling it a “game-breaking experience.” The user said they were riding through Olympus on a Trident with two other players when their friends started to crash into them for fun. One of the collisions smashed the vehicle up against the wall before catapulting it high into the sky. A “Get Back in The Ring” warning flashed on the screen as the players sat suspended above the map. Jolly-Moment found the bug amusing at first, until they and their two friends were booted from the match and the game crashed.
The bug occurs at random so it will be near-impossible for players to replicate the glitch. Developer Respawn has yet to officially comment on the bug, but it is likely that they will fix it in a future patch as it causes the game to crash. The developer is usually quick to respond to such glitches, and in the past, Respawn has even offered players free packs because of experience-ruining bugs.
Apex Legends is currently in its 7th season, which introduced vehicles and the Olympus map. The developers at Respawn recently gave an interview discussing their experiences working from home during the Covid-19 pandemic and what future seasons might have in store. Game Director Chad Grenier said fans should be excited for what comes in in Apex Legends’ Season 9, as it will feature “major things you didn’t expect,” and added that Season 9,10, and 11 may be Respawn’s best work yet.
Apex Legends is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with mobile and Switch versions planned to release in 2021.
