Pokemon GO: How to Beat Giovanni (December 2020) | Game Rant

Team GO Rocket is still very much active for players in Pokemon GO with the organization’s higher-ups recently getting new parties of Pokemon. This means that players will need to prepare for these new teams so they don’t get wiped out while battling them.

Like the other admins of Team GO Rocket, the leader of the organization, Giovanni, also has a brand new party. While some of his party members may be familiar to many Pokemon GO players, there are still a very newcomers that some players may not expect.

Due to Giovanni’s status as the head of Team GO Rocket, he will be no pushover in battle. Players will need to strategize their usage of Protect Shields as well as the timing of their charge moves.

When battling Giovanni, these are all his possible Pokemon for his party:

  • First Pokemon – Persian
  • Second Pokemon – Kangaskhan, Nidoking, or Garchomp
  • Third Pokemon – Mewtwo

Persian is a pure normal-type Pokemon, making it weak to only fighting-type moves. This means that fighting-type Pokemon will be the best choice for challenging this Pokemon. Powerful fighting-type Pokemon include:

  • Shadow Machamp – Counter and Dynamic Punch
  • Lucario – Counter and Aura Sphere
  • Conkeldurr – Counter and Dynamic Punch

Kangaskhan is also a pure normal-type Pokemon, making it share the same weaknesses as Persian. The Pokemon listed above for Persian can be used against Kangaskhan for maximum efficiency.

Nidoking is a dual poison and ground-type Pokemon with it being weak to ground, water, psychic, and ice-type moves. Out of these types, these are the best Pokemon to bring along in case Giovanni is using Nidoking:

  • Groudon – Mud Shot and Earthquake
  • Garchomp – Mud Shot and Earthquake
  • Mega Blastoise – Water Gun and Hydro Cannon
  • Shadow Swampert – Water Gun and Hydro Cannon
  • Shadow Mewtwo – Confusion and Psystrike
  • Shadow Metagross – Zen Headbutt and Psychic
  • Shadow Weavile – Ice Shard and Avalanche
  • Galarian Darmanitan – Ice Fang and Avalanche

Garchomp is a dual dragon and ground-type Pokemon giving it weaknesses to ice, dragon, and fairy-type moves. Due to its status as a pseudo-legendary Pokemon, Garchomp is an incredibly powerful Pokemon capable of dealing out massive amounts of damage.

Strong Pokemon that can take advantage of Garchomp’s weaknesses include:

  • Shadow Weavile – Ice Shard and Avalanche
  • Galarian Darmanitan – Ice Fang and Avalanche
  • Shadow Salamance – Dragon Tail and Outrage
  • Shadow Dragonite – Dragon Tail and Outrage
  • Shadow Gardevoir – Charm and Dazzling Gleam
  • Togekiss – Charm and Dazzling Gleam

Mewtwo is the biggest threat on Giovanni’s team as well as the guaranteed final part of the battle. It absolutely lives up to its title as a legendary Pokemon and will be very difficult to overcome. However, Mewtwo is not without weaknesses with it being weak to bug, ghost, and dark-type moves due to being a pure psychic-type Pokemon.

Pokemon that will be very helpful in taking down Mewtwo include:

  • Mega Beedrill – Bug Bite/Infestation or X-Scissor
  • Shadow Pinsir – Bug Bite/Fury Cutter and X-Scissor
  • Mega Gengar – Shadow Claw/Lick and Shadow Ball
  • Origin Form Giratina – Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball
  • Mega Houndoom – Snarl and Foul Play
  • Shadow Tyranitar – Bite and Crunch
