Stardew Valley update adds split-screen co-op, a new Beach Farm, and more

Stardew Valley’s upcoming 1.5 update will add a new Beach Farm type, split-screen co-op and a new Advanced Game Options menu, developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone has said.

Barone posted a screenshot of Stardew Valley‘s new menu on his Twitter account over the weekend, showing off a wealth of new options including: a “remixed” Community Center Bundles, a guarantee one-year completion check box, a mine rewards drop-down box, and a setting that allows you to prevent monsters from spawning on your farm.

“If you’re a seasoned player thinking of starting a new farm when 1.5 comes out, I’d like to highlight a couple of new features,” Barone tweeted. “There will be a new farm type, Beach Farm, and a new Advanced Game Options menu, from which you can adjust some aspects of the game.”

If you’re wondering about what that one-year completion option is all about, Barone explains it refers specifically to red cabbage – which usually won’t appear in-game in the first year of your playthrough in the standard mode.

“Right now in Stardew Valley, there’s a bundle that requires red cabbage, which can’t be obtained in year one except by random chance at the traveling merchant, which might not happen,” Barone explains in a follow-up tweet. “Selecting ‘guaranteed y1 completable’ ensures that red cabbage seed will show up in y1.”

You will only be able to alter these settings when you start a new farm, too.

There’s also the new Beach Farm coming – for the most part it acts like a normal farm, with all crops able to be planted and grow in the sane. Sprinklers don’t work in the sand, though.

“I know it might be controversial [that sprinklers don’t work on sand], that’s why I’m giving everyone forewarning,” Barone notes. “I kind of like watering by hand, myself. If you play through the entire update, by the end you might realise, in context, the sprinkler restriction isn’t that bad…”

The Stardew Valley 1.5 update has been slated for a release on PC by the end of 2020, and it’ll arrive on consoles in early 2021, too.

Stardew Valley has sold over 10 million copies worldwide since it was released in February 2016, and Barone is working on two new spin-off games.
