Despite being the dominant platform for streamers to broadcast their gameplay, the name Twitch is synonymous with controversy at this point. Every other day it seems that someone is banned for a reason that the community disagrees with or DMCA strikes cause undue strife to streamers just trying to play games online.
The latest in the long list of controversial Twitch bans goes to Tayhuhu, a professional Valorant player whose streaming career was just starting to kick off. According to Tayhuhu, the ban was a result of her young daughter appearing on stream and interacting with the chat while she was away.
As with most bans like this, the community is rallying behind Tayhuhu, calling for the indefinite ban to be lifted and for her channel to be reinstated. In classic Twitch fashion, no public statement has been given about the ban, leaving Tayhuhu and her followers in the dark about her future on the platform.
Tayhuhu was streaming as she normally would when she took a brief break to pick up groceries that were just delivered to her. During her absence, her young daughter made an appearance on stream and started interacting with the chat in some way. Twitch promptly banned Tayhuhu from the platform because streamers are not allowed to be under the age of 13, marking the end of her burgeoning career there. Obviously, the account wasn’t in Tayhuhu’s daughter’s name, and other streamers have their children show up on stream without any repercussions.
This is just the latest in a stream of oddly targeted Twitch bans, with the same offense resulting in different punishments for different streamers. Even disregarding the fact that this was an accident and that Tayhuhu’s account isn’t linked to her daughter in any way, there’s doesn’t seem to be many good reasons why this sort of thing could result in a ban.
Regardless, for the time being Tayhuhu is banned from Twitch and won’t be streaming there anymore. Instead, interested viewers can find her streaming Valorant and other content on Facebook Gaming. Now that Mixer is no more, there aren’t very many competitors left to stand up to Twitch, leaving many streamers feeling like they don’t have another option. Thankfully, Tayhuhu found somewhere else for her streaming to take place, just as countless other banned streamers have before her. Hopefully the public outcry will result in the ban being lifted, but that doesn’t seem like it will happen any time soon.
