PlayStation Studios keeps the festive spirit going by releasing a series of holiday cards for fans to spread the cheer. Coming from a PlayStation Blog post, the card designs celebrate a plethora of the games and developers in 2020.
The holiday card series is just one instance of Sony offering holiday gifts to supporters. It is a tradition that showcases game-themed experiences from throughout the recent year. Typically, PlayStation friends and partners from around the globe create the designs.
Included in the 2020 collection is a wide variety of development teams with hit games throughout this year. Famous teams like, 2K, Activision, Bethesda, Bungie, Insomniac Games, and Naughty Dog to name just a few. But the list would not be complete without the smaller names too, and PlayStation Studios has it covered. There are plenty of creative styles representing indie developers such as Housemarque, Studio MDHR, and Chucklefish Games.
Some of the best games that saw launches both on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 have some representation here. Front and center are popular releases like Marvel’s Spiderman: Miles Morales and Ghost of Tsushima. But next-generation cards have nods to the much loved Demon’s Souls and Astro’s Playroom. This is just a small taste of the cards available on the blog post, with plenty of recognizable characters and games to collect.
The PlayStation Blog tradition of posting special holiday cards is certainly a treat for fans of the long-standing studio. There are clever designs in the 2020 collection, like Deacon from Days Gone motorcycling through the air with a bag of presents. There is some talent behind various offerings too, like the recreation of characters from Horizon Zero Dawn and the Ghost of Tsushima, Jin Sakai. This series not only brings joyful tidings to viewers, but also fantastic artists into the limelight.
That said, not all the cards this year reach great heights. Compared to some of the highlights, there are certain cards that look to have less effort put into them. Various options, like Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies card, just have an image of a game character or model with a slightly festive theme. While it is important that PlayStation Studios show off diverse studios, there are some developers in the list that may have fans wondering why they were included. Overall, the special holiday card series is a fantastic tradition that presents a lens into the experiences that make PlayStation a great studio.
