Pokémon is an entertainment franchise that is well-known and well-loved around the world. The series has crossed over global and generational borders, so much so that one fan even accidentally helped name their nephew “Zacian” after the sword-wielding legendary in Pokémon Sword. Therefore it is not surprising to find Pokémon-inspired announcements in almost every aspect of a fan’s life, whether it be in technology, food and even fashion.
Pokémon fans have an exciting collaboration to look forward to this holiday season as The Pokémon Company has revealed a partnership with popular eyewear fashion brand, JINS Eyewear. Working together to design an eyeglasses and accessories line that is Pokémon-themed, aspiring Trainers can choose their favorite starters, and even legendaries, to wear on their faces.
Starting December 21, 2020, up to 50 different frame models have been put up for sale at the JINS website. The team behind the JINS Pokémon Model line gave fans these many options to reflect how the player is able to choose their first Pokémon at the beginning of each game. All currently available eyewear is divided into four different models: the Flagship Model, the Kanto Region Model, Johto Region Model, and Kids Model. Each of the models will come with their own set of accessories such as an eyeglass case, cleaning cloth, and decorative stickers. Some of the designs are remodels of current JINS frames but provide a different shape or design that emphasizes a Pokémon‘s popular character trait.
The Flagship Model features some of the most popular Pokémon in the series such as Pikachu, Eevee, Snorlax, and Mew. Priced at $140, each frame comes with a brown leather case and a cleaning cloth with Poké Ball details. For avid fans of Gen 1, the Kanto Region Model has embossed designs of Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle in one arm of the frame and Pikachu in the other. The provided case is grey in color and the cleaning cloth is dotted with all 151 Pokémon from the Kanto region.
The Johto Region Model showcases Gen 2 starters Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile with legendaries Lugia and Ho-Oh. The white frame case and silver/gold cleaning cloth were designed pay respect to Pokémon Gold and Silver. The Kids Model has more Poké Ball-inspired features that tie in with silhouettes of Pikachu, Eevee, and Mew. Accessories include a Poké Ball frame case with a Rotom phone cleaning cloth.
Frames from the Kanto Region & Johto Region are both priced at $120 while glasses from the Kids Model cost $100. With the current JINS Pokémon Model line serving only up to Gen 2, it is possible that the eyewear brand will launch more designs from other Pokémon generations at a later date.
