Some Cyberpunk 2077 Fans Are Upset They Can’t Keep Playing After Getting Refund

Outrage surrounding the release of CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 has not gone undeserved, especially from would-be fans experiencing the rocky launch on current generation consoles. The sheer volume of negative press and player feedback has forced the hands of both Sony and Microsoft to offer full-refunds for Cyberpunk 2077, though despite their accessibility, some refunders are still having trouble.

Those most righteous in their displeasure with one of the year’s most anticipated releases have to be players running the game on their PS4 or Xbox One, as these versions are beleaguered by the brunt of the bugs circulating across social media as of late. No doubt a show of ambitiousness, the initial plan to release Cyberpunk 2077 on several platforms has cost the game a fair amount of quality control prior to release.

In the spirit of solidarity shared by people feeling betrayed after several years’ worth of hype, one disappointed fan expressed their displeasure through securing a refund for their digital copy of Cyberpunk 2077. What caught their attention, so much so that it warranted their declaration of Xbox support’s villainy via Twitter, was the realization that refunding the game resulted in no longer being able to play the game.

Despite being put in an unusual situation, Microsoft as well as Sony have both been more than accommodating in processing the large influx of refund requests. To the chagrin of Twitter user “Zack,” neither company has had an impact on evolving how refunds have worked throughout the course of customer service since its initial conceptualization. Unfortunately, the justification as to why Zack should retain their copy regardless of their dissatisfaction enough to have it refunded is both factually dubious as well as pessimistic about the future of Cyberpunk 2077.

As memes abound concerning the professionalism of CD Projekt Red and the mishandling of one of the most promoted titles of the decade, there does still exist a very promising game beneath the bugs and glitches. While not to excuse the sub-par launch as acceptable by any stretch of the imagination, the best Cyberpunk 2077 experience reportedly being found on the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S affirms the philosophy that the developers are keeping their focus on next-gen hardware. Given enough time, however, the hope that what should have been an instant classic rising from its current PR firestorm into what fans have been wanting is still a very real possibility.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available for PC, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions coming in 2021.
