Following all of the delays, the highly anticipated launch of Cyberpunk 2077 wasn’t without its fair share of issues. Much of it is well documented at this point with the base versions of the game suffering from a host of technical issues causing many retail stores as well as Microsoft and Sony to offer full refunds. One thing that seems to unite all platforms however are bugs and glitches that range from the game-breaking to moderately humorous.
While developer CD Projekt RED has been releasing hot fixes in an effort to correct many of these problems, some continue to run rampart in the open world of Night City. While some players have managed to compile videos of bugs in action, often times to hilarious effect, others have taken to the Cyberpunk 2077 subReddit to report other strange behaviors. One user in particular has reported a new bug that, while it isn’t game breaking, may actually be something that players seek out until CDPR ends up fixing it.
User Octoberoclock has seemingly discovered a way for players to unofficially add a permanent companion character to their adventures in Night City. Cyberpunk 2077 players who leave in the middle of a quest where an NPC character is assisting, they’ll end up permanently following the player. This includes in cutscenes, on other missions, and even being part of photo mode. Octoberoclock shows this off by having both Judy and Panam walking alongside his player in a shot captured from Photo Mode.
This bug may sound familiar to players as it’s similar to the one that had Maelstrom dealer Dum Dum follow the player once his questline in The Heist was completed. Interestingly enough, this particular bug was highlighted by CD Projekt Red in its Update 1.05 hot fix and seemingly fixed. However, either due to that correction or something else happening, this behavior has transferred to most other support characters.
While these companion characters may not be on the level of a game like Fallout, many players may enjoy having the extra firepower on certain missions. It’s likely that CD Projekt RED will work to fix this issue sooner than later, especially with the studio planning to deliver three substantial updates through January and February. Considering the studio already corrected a similar bug in its latest update, identifying this one may not take too much time as the behavior patterns are quite similar. Players who want to take advantage of this bug should do so sooner than later, though it may result in some truly awkward moments with an NPC intruding on certain story moments.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
