Marvel’s Avengers certainly has the potential to turn itself around if Crystal Dynamic and Square Enix put the effort in, and it seems like that might be happening. Fans have found that a new roster slot has been added to the “Heroes” section of the game’s official website, indicating that information on the next Marvel’s Avengers DLC will be coming soon.
The arrival of a new hero so soon after the release of Marvel’s Avengers’ Kate Bishop DLC is a promising sign, as it indicates that the game is approaching a more stable state. As previously mentioned by Crystal Dynamics, once the core game is improved upon enough, the team will begin releasing DLC to add some much-needed content to Marvel’s Avengers. Based on a new addition to the game’s official website, it seems like that time has come.
Twitter user PlayAvenger captured an image of the teaser, which sees the game’s hero roster updated with a “coming soon” slot next to Kate Bishop. As such, fans have already started to theorize about which hero will be coming to the game next. While Black Panther’s voice actor has leaked for the game and Spider-Man is expected to come later next year, the hero that will likely fill this mystery slot should be obvious to those who have been following the game and its post-launch plans.
Players can expect Marvel’s Avengers’ comic-accurate Hawkeye to arrive at the start of 2021, as the character’s storyline will be a continuation of the tale that was started up in the Kate Bishop DLC. Originally teased as a two-parter, Clint Barton was set to come to the game a few weeks after Kate. While plans have obviously changed due to the game’s rough launch state, it seems likely that the original Hawkeye will still release after Kate Bishop before Black Panther, Spider-Man, or the other leaked heroes make an appearance.
With Crystal Dynamics planning to win players back via DLC for Marvel’s Avengers, hopefully the next Hawkeye expansion is a memorable one. While Clint has an interesting villain to face off against in Maestro, as well as a deep bond with Kate to explore further in the expansion, storytelling has not been one of the issues players have had with the game. For the next Marvel’s Avengers DLC to succeed, it will need to provide some gameplay variety to go with the game’s strong voice acting and memorable narrative.
It would certainly be nice to see Hawkeye’s arrival help right the ship for Marvel’s Avengers. With Crystal Dynamics adding fan-requested team-up moves to the game, the team’s passion for rebuilding the game’s player base is clear, and hopefully the bigger content drops see numbers rise once again.
Marvel’s Avengers is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are in development.
