Like most people, earlier this year actor and filmmaker John Krasinski decided to pursue a small passion project of his by starting his own YouTube channel called Some Good News, a simple news show shot from Krasinki’s own home for the sole purpose of sharing good news and good news only towards the beginning of the pandemic. His most recent episode features a fun, holiday-themed appearance from none other than Dwayne Johnson.
Some Good News went on to become a YouTube sensation that was eventually bought by media giant ViacomCBS less than two months after Krasinki launched the segment, thus further strengthening his credentials as director and producer. And then, Some Good News simply disappeared as quickly as it came, taking a 7-month break until just now.
As it turns out, Krasinski decided to bring back Some Good News in holiday fashion by having over one of the most coveted guests any show could hope to have, at least according to Hollywood’s pay rankings. Keeping up with the show’s lighthearted and good-spirited nature, one of Krasinski’s guests was a man named Jay Abel, a single widowed father of two children who was on the verge of selling his prized comic book collection to afford Christmas presents for his kids. Tune in at 15:15 for Johnson’s cue.
Dwayne Johnson, who dubbed himself “Dwanta Claus,” coming down the metaphoric chimney to give Abel the good news that he won’t have to sell his comic books because he’ll take care of his kids’ presents has to be one of the most heart-warming moments in a show designed to make you feel good. As if that weren’t enough, Johnson invited Abel to swing by the set of Black Adam once COVID-related restrictions allow it, as well as letting him he’d be mailing him a signed copy of the movie’s script as a gift.
To wrap things up, Johnson and Krasinski announced a joint charity effort with FedEx to donate $5m to the Toys for Tots organization, thus completely overshadowing the previous guest in the show, a certain man by the name of George Clooney. All this while Johnson rocked some rare loose Santa Claus outfit very different from what he’ll be wearing as Black Adam.
It’s not clear if Krasinski’s Some Good News is back permanently or whether this was just a holiday special to revive his quarantine hobby, the actor is a notably busy man, though he’ll at least have some extra time on his hands until A Quiet Place Part II finally gets released around April 2021.
