The Xbox Series S might not pack quite as much power as the Series X, but it has it’s own benefits. For example: you can actually buy one (in some places).
While other retailers like Target and Walmart remain thoroughly out of stock, Best Buy has plenty of the smaller consoles to go round – at the time of writing, anyway. Not only that, but they’re also offering minor discounts to the tune of $10-25 on Series S bundles.
- Xbox Series S 512 GB Console for $299
- Xbox Series S 512 GB Console + White Controller for $349.98
- Xbox Series S 512 GB Console + 3 Month Game Pass Subscription for $329.98
- Xbox Series S 512 GB Console + White Controller + 3 Month Game Pass Subscription for $379.97
However, the consoles are only available for in-store pick up, so stock availability will depend on location. If you do end up getting lucky make sure to be careful and keep those hands thoroughly sanitised!
The Series S is an all digital console, designed as a cheaper option for those unwilling to shell out for the monolithic Series X. However, despite the smaller price point, the little console has proved itself capable of going toe-to-toe with the next-gen competition. Richard Leadbetter did a full technical rundown of the Series S for Digital Foundry last month, saying ‘it achieves what it sets out to do and does it with genuine style’. Old school gamers may be turned off by the lack of physical disks, but if you’re happy with the game pass, this is a great option.
