This month saw the release of the much-awaited Cyberpunk 2077. Despite a rocky launch, the game has acquired a pretty large player base. And under all the issues is a pretty solid game. And Night City is one of the best worlds to be made in a game in recent times.
The city is its own entity, alive and indifferent to your attempts to make it big. It is welcoming and hostile, with characters and alliances shifting around based on your decisions. The city and its inhabitants are a big part of your story as V and the best part of the game. But starting in this world can be hard. So here are our best tips for making it big or going out in a blaze of glory.
10 Be Careful Around People
Night City reacts to your presence in real-time, and saying or doing the wrong thing can land you in trouble. It is wise to be careful of what button you press when around a lot of people. You might accidentally attack a person, which in the best case will only alert the police. Similarly, keep your weapon holstered unless in combat. Just having your weapon out is considered an act of aggression, and you might end up in a lot more fights than you can handle.
9 Pick Up Everything
There are a lot of doors that money can open for you in the city, but it is hard to come by. An easy way to keep earning extra eddies throughout the game is looking around picking up everything around you. There isn’t a stealing mechanic in the game, so you can take anything you see.
Take the time to pick through the aftermath of an encounter. Look around and use your scanner while sneaking around. You can even disassemble some of the loot to get rare crafting parts, and you will make a significant amount of money selling weapons and mods you don’t need.
8 Don’t Get Overencumbured
Now while you’re picking all this stuff, you can fill up your inventory. When you get overencumbered, you start losing speed and stamina. To avoid this, you can regularly sell off your loot at drop points and kiosks. You can also stash some stuff in the trunk of your car, once you manage to buy one. There is also a marking system, so if there’s a good piece of loot that you don’t want to miss you can mark it on your map.
7 Run! Jump! Fly!
The upgrade system in the game depends on what you do. The more of an action you do, the more perk progression points you get. So, running and jumping and climbing around the city gives you a lot of points towards the athletics perks, which offer some very valuable bonuses. Similarly, if you want to specialise in a weapon type, use that weapon as much as possible. Or if you want stealth bonuses, try your best to sneak everywhere. Doing what you want to boost is the best way to get perks for it, and the perks are pretty strong.
6 Have A Diverse Skillset
While the progression system rewards specialization, a degree of diversity is important. The game is full of skill checks and it won’t hurt to have a few extra skills to complement your playstyle. Putting points into Tech is especially important, as a higher Tech level can give you a lot more options. Similarly, investing in Body will open up a lot of avenues for you.
5 Explore Every Option (When You Can)
Cyberpunk 2077 is full of things to do. While the explosion of icons can be intimidating while starting, a lot of them are small quests, vendors or fast travel points. But, apart from the map, your environment has a lot of information for you.
People having conversations around you can provide valuable info for quests or loot. Even going through some of the blue options in conversations can open up new choices. Probing every nook and cranny of the game will reward you handsomely.
4 Fight The Bosses
Yes, even if you’re going for a pacifist-ish or stealthy run, fight the big bosses at the end of levels. If you somehow manage to avoid them (which is not easy), you will be missing out on a lot of great stuff. Taking down bosses gives you a lot of eddies and experience. But more importantly, they can drop unique loot.
3 Play Fast And Loose (With Loot)
There is a lot of loot in Cyberpunk. From guns to mods to armor, there is a lot to find. And as you scale up in levels, a lot of older loot becomes obsolete. For the best experience, keep changing to the newest, best loot you can find.
While there are a few pieces that, with upgrades and mods, can stick it out to the end, you will continuously be finding better items. So don’t get too attached and keep switching it up for the best possible builds.
2 Mod Everything
Yes, absolutely everything can be modded. Weapons, in particular, have a variety of fantastic mod options. Some can even turn your best weapons non-lethal, which will liven up your non-lethal run considerably. If that wasn’t enough, clothing and armour can get mods too! And as you get more street cred and move to newer areas, you will get more mods, and more items, with ever more possibilities for modding. So mod away, Samurai!
1 Frequent Ripperdocs
Ripperdocs are the people who will mod your body. And every Ripperdoc has some unique inventory that will help you out a lot in your quest. Now, these mods are expensive, but the upgrades they offer are definitely worth it. There are huge flashy upgrades that will bump up your DPS, like the mantis blades from the teaser. But there are also less subtle upgrades that can help with other aspects of the game, like an OS or RAM upgrades to help with hacking. There is a lot of cyberware to choose from, so choose whatever fits your playstyle the best.
