Batman: The Animated Series is easily one of the most iconic iterations of the caped crusader to ever hit television. A stylish animated show filled to the brim with clever writing, original scenarios, and legendary performances, Batman: The Animated Series isn’t just a great Batman show, it is, in the eyes of many, the Batman show. Whether it’s a famous foe with an incredible voice performance like Mark Hamill’s Joker, or a classic episode that reinvented an old Batman nemesis, the show permanently shaped the Batman mythos in the popular conscious, and soon it will finally be available for everyone to stream.
The announcement came as part of a larger shift: the DC Universe streaming service is finally relinquishing its hold on DC Films and Shows, converting into a fully comics-based platform. Originally intended as a one-stop-shop for everything DC, the struggling platform has decided to focus in on the comics audience, moving it’s wide array of DC television and film over to HBO Max, which has seen better success overall.
Starting January 1st of 2021, DC shows and movies will start making the transition to HBO Max. This includes, of course, Batman: The Animated Series and the equally beloved Batman Beyond. Other content will be making its way to HBO Max as well, including DC projects like Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, and Batman: Bad Blood. The service will also be adding several non-DC films and shows, including new episodes of Snowpiercer, the Oceans trilogy, and several Tarantino movies.
A complete list of what’s coming is available on WarnerMedia’s website, so those looking to see which specific DC projects are on their way to HBO Max will want to check out the fine details there. Other notable DC titles on the way are Christopher Nolan’s live-action Batman films, including The Dark Knight, the original Blade film, and Superman Returns.
It’s worth browsing the full list, as it includes an impressive lineup of content: everything from award-winning films like No Country for Old Men to classic Cartoon Network shows like Codename: Kids Next Door. No matter what kind of content people are looking for, there’s bound to be something in this lineup to suit their fancy. For those stuck inside on the turn of the new year, HBO Max could be a decent solution to stave off the quarantine blues, as come January 1st, there’ll be no shortage of fresh content to browse.
Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond will be available on HBO Max starting January 1st.
