Cobra Kai Season 3 Moved to January 1 by Johnny Lawrence Himself

Netflix had long ago decided Cobra Kai was going to be one of their 2021 openers, but the streaming service just took Johnny Lawrence’s approach a little bit further. Until now, Cobra Kai season 3 had been scheduled for release on January 8 with the show being heavily teased with some sneak peeks of what’s to come for the Karate Kid reboot.

After last season’s dramatic ending, Cobra Kai’s trailer for season three had hinted some of what’s to come for Lawrence and his longtime rival Daniel Larusso and their respective Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do students, with the latter being bound for a trip down memory lane to Okinawa to meet some old friends and enemies, but much less has been shown about what the future holds for the Cobra Kai sensei.

As it turns out, Netflix had a Christmas surprise in store for fans, with Johnny Lawrence himself serving as the bearer of good news to announce the Cobra Kai season 3 premiere will move up to January 1 for a perfect New Year’s binge session. As the video suggests, Johnny had some help from his trusted pawn shop guy to make it all happen.

The video itself is pretty funny as it plays on one of Cobra Kai’s central themes, that being Johnny Lawrence being absolutely stuck in the past and barely even able to operate a computer, the internet, smartphones, or dating apps without Miguel’s help, but it looks like Sensei Lawrence has learned a couple of things from his student. “Now you get it a week early,” Lawrence says, “See you on New Year’s, nerds.”

Lawrence was last seen in season two being absolutely broken after letting down Miguel and his mom, even pushing him to contact Ali, his and Larusso’s love interest during the first Karate Kid movie. As for the kids, the trailer had shown Miguel making his way to a slow recovery and Robbie facing his fair share of legal problems after sending his rival to the hospital; while all their friends from their dojos looked to be adapting to the aftermath of season two in their own way.

Now with only a week remaining until the new Cobra Kai season is fully available, it is as good a time as any to catch up on the first 20 episodes. If past performance is anything to judge by, Cobra Kai shouldn’t have any problems leading the streaming charts come 2021.

Cobra Kai is available on Netflix with season 3 scheduled for release on January 1, 2021.
