The Dawning seasonal event entered its second week and Bungie, sensing the community needed a little bit of a boost to its holiday spirit, decided to intervene with a backend hot fix. This year, the community was tasked with collectively earning a set amount of Dawning Spirit from delivering goods and finishing bounties. However, the requirements appeared to be a bit more steep than originally intended as the player base quickly fell behind and was in danger of not finishing before the event wrapped up. Thankfully, Bungie made a change to triple the amount players could earn and now the community is back on track.
In addition to feeling festive, players on Europa have managed to discover a strange looking portal after glitching out of the Concealed Void lost sector. The strange asset has already sparked plenty of discussion around what it could be or potentially used for down the road. Many have linked it to the upcoming return of the Vault of Glass raid, though there are some that believe it could be a direct link to The Black Garden, an area on Mars where the player had their final showdown with The Darkness in the first Destiny.
Today, Santa Xur makes his weekly appearance inside of Destiny 2, bringing with him new exotic presents for all the good little Guardians. Follow this guide for his location, news on his exotic cypher quest, as well as a review of what he’s currently selling for the weekend of December 25, 2020.
For the next few days, players can find the exotic merchant hanging out in his usual spot at The Tower
As usual, fast travel to the main Tower location and head left into the Hangar. Once there, take another left and move past the Dead Orbit section to find a metal staircase. Move up the stairs to find Xur on a platform overlooking the mountain range off in the distance.
While Xur’s role is essentially the same as it was prior to the Beyond Light expansion, the exotic merchant also has weekly quests that players can acquire to unlock an exotic cypher. Not only are these required to purchase a second fated engram, but they’re necessary to acquire legacy exotic gear from the new kiosk. Players can earn a new cypher by completing strikes and winning crucible or gambit matches. Gain bonus points for playing with clanmates or finishing more challenging activities.
Other than that, here are Xur’s three gear pieces this weekend:
Karnstein Armlets – Warlock gauntlets
Just on sale last month, the Karnstein Armlets are back in stock. These are a strong Warlock exotic item, that gives the player added survivability thanks to its exotic perk. Upon a melee kill, Vampire’s Caress restores a large portion of health while also continuing to restore health for a short duration afterward.
This is an item that all Warlocks should have as it’s a very strong item in PvE situations and activities like Gambit, Escalation Protocol, or Blind Well where there are large groups of enemies to overcome. There are much better options for PvP players, but it’s a fun exotic to play around with otherwise.

- Mobility +7
- Resilience +14
- Recovery +9
- Discipline +10
- Intellect +14
- Strength +6
The Sixth Coyote – Hunter chest armor
Originally introduced inside of the Forsaken expansion, this armor comes with the Double Dodge intrinsic perk which basically gives players a second dodge. As such, this exotic armor is subclass neutral, meaning it can synergize with any Hunter subclass making it a viable option regardless of play style.
While the perk may not be particularly flashy or unique, getting a second dodge is pretty useful in all game modes of Destiny 2. With Marksman’s Dodge equipped, players would be able to automatically reload their weapons twice or refresh their melee ability twice with Gambler’s Dodge. Another bonus are the high stats, though the mobility could be a bit better. Either way, it’s better than the collections roll.

- Discipline +2

Ashen Wake – Titan gauntlets
While this exotic is normally not something to get overly excited about, Titans may want to take another look at these gauntlets this time around. The Ashen Wake gauntlets were improved earlier this year inside of of Bungie’s sandbox changes made to the game.
Bring the Heat makes fusion grenades explode on impact and gives the player increased throw speed. The recent buff grants additional grenade energy for final blows made with a fusion grenade. The stronger the enemy, the more energy is returned. They’re still situational but the added bonuses are nice, however, the biggest issue is that the discipline roll on this gear is pretty bad.
Solar Enhanced. Stat Values:
- Mobility +2
- Resilience +12
- Recovery +18
- Discipline +2
- Intellect +14
- Strength +16
At one time, this sniper was once regarded as one of the best snipers in the game alongside Whisper of the Worm. While it’s no longer that, it’s still a solid choice even if it’s not the go to heavy exotic these days. It’s still able to put up some big damage so players who don’t yet have this weapon should feel comfortable about picking it up.
The intrinsic perk known as Personal Assistant gives the player access to critical information like health and distance when the scope is aimed at an enemy. Synchronizing with that is the exotic trait Target Acquired, which activates when Personal Assistant is used. Essentially, it gives the weapon better target acquisition and deals significantly more precision damage.
