Apex Legends Accidentally Reveals Pathfinder Stories from the Outlands Early

When Apex Legends first launched, Pathfinder’s presence was far heavier than it is today. However, fans of the joyful zipline-placing robot should be excited to hear that Pathfinder will once again be getting some love from Respawn, as lore will be coming for the Apex Legends character via the next “Stories from the Outlands” video.

While more lore for Lifeline and Mirage has recently been a focus as of late for the Apex Legends team, one Legend that has been consistently unexplored by the developers thus far has been Pathfinder. Aside from being a tutorial guide with some unique scouting skills, Pathfinder has no idea where he came from or why he was created. However, that may soon change, as a Pathfinder-led “Stories from the Outlands” lore drop is on the way.

The news came via an Apex Legends webpage that was accidentally posted early, confirming that the short will premier on Tuesday, December 29. The post also gave the short the title of “Fight Night,” with the description saying that “not everyone makes it twelve rounds.” While the lore shared in the video likely will not be as massive as the reveal of Revenant’s ties to Loba, it would still be interesting to see Pathfinder’s world travels. With the image in the post showing the robot in a safari hat, it can safely be assumed that fans will indeed be seeing the character’s globetrotting adventures.

Aside from some much-needed Pathfinder backstory via the special animated short, it seems like an in-game event will focus on the Legend as well. Players have already found numerous teasers around the Olympus map for the game’s Fight Night event, which will likely resemble the Town Takeovers previously seen in Apex Legends. With the map taking on a Pathfinder-themed redesign, everyone should get the message that Respawn is exploring the jolly robot.

The post has since been taken down since the @TitanfallBlog Twitter account shared the news, as a developer for Respawn Tweeted “oops” after seeing that the webpage was posted early. Community Director Ryan K. Rigney spoke for Respawn when he shared that the team is taking down the blog post “until we’re ready for showtime.” While that “showtime” is supposedly just a few days away, it does make sense that the exciting post is removed until then.

While some players consider Pathfinder one of the worst Legends in terms of gameplay, the character’s lore seems to be improving. With Pathfinder also set to get a standalone book that explores the search for his creator in February, hopefully Respawn puts the same effort into adjusting his kit to make the beloved bot more viable in-game.

Apex Legends is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with mobile and Switch versions in development.
